Anyone add a porch on their house?

Anyone ever add a porch on their home? Just curious what company you used and a roundabout cost? Also, do your taxes go up?

We have a Cape. So, I'm looking for something like the picture.

We are planning on it.

So far it's been a PITA between the architect who took forever and now we are dealing with the town.

We need to get a variance. They also found other "stuff" in the midst of it all.

And yes, I'm assuming our taxes will go up if we do it, because why wouldn't they?

This IS Long Island after all.

Anyone add a porch on their house?

We added sq.ft. to an existing front porch, added a new porch above that, and added a 2nd. fl. rear sleeping porch above an existing room below. We used Benson Const. (Suffolk Co.) because he knows woodworking.

Taxes? Seriously? Has anyone on LI ever decided NOT to do something because of the incurred taxes? Which, BTW, are the lowest % in the state.

We added a front porch and back deck but our contractor did it after we had a lot of other work done on our house. He and the town's inspector became friendly because he'd been to our house so frequently during the construction so we thought after sharing the plans with the town it would go fine. Nope. The inspector made the contractor re-do both the porch and the deck TWICE!
Taxes didn't really go up, though.
We used Graziano Construction (Oakdale/Sayville).

I believe Julz33 added a porch, but they did it themselves and it came out beautifully.

We added a big front porch, however I am in NC so no recommendations. It cost us about 12k? Taxes went up a bit so I would think in NY they would go up too.

Taxes will definitely go up and you may run into issues with the town regarding your front setbacks, requiring you to get a variance.

We thought about doing a porch when I built my house. I checked similar houses with porches and without. The ones with porches for some reason were at least $1000 more a year in taxes. We ended up skipping the porch and I am glad we did since our taxes came in real cheap based on square footage.
