Re: Fundraiser for local Smithtown Family
More information on the Crawford family. This is the letter I have been using to ask for raffle dontations from local business.
To whom it may concern:
Leonard Crawford is a 48 year old retired NYC Police Officer. He has been married to his wife Georgina for 22 years and they have two teenage children Lenny 17 and Rebecca 13. Recently Lenny was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. ALS is a terminal disease with no known cure and a life expectancy of 2-5 years from date of diagnosis. ALS is a disease that weakens every muscle in your body until they become paralyzed. Many ALS patients will only be able to move their eyes to communicate. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries. The costs to families providing for a family member with ALS can be upwards of $125,000 to 150,000 a year. In the end it leaves families not only grieving the loss of a family member, but at a financial loss also.
John Yelle a longtime friend of Lenny’s, and also a player and co-owner of Man’s Ruin Roller Derby reached out SIDR to see if there was something we could do to help the Crawfords. Together we decided to have a co-ed exhibition bout on January 18, 2014 at World Gym in East Setuaket, NY. All proceeds from this bout will go directly to Lenny Crawford and his family to help offset the high cost of ongoing medical bills and therapies. We are looking for donations from local businesses and merchants in the form of gift cards, merchandise and or any other items we can use in our raffle and to help meet our fundraising goals. Any and all efforts made by merchants to assist in this important event would be greatly appreciated and would help ease the burden of this horrible disease that has been placed upon the Crawford family. If you would like to mail any items, please send them to the address below. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
