Potty training help!

Dd will be 3 at the end of the month and we have decided its time to start potty training. We took her to the store and let her puck out the potty of her choice, she has underwear as well as pull-ups.

What were methods you used to get the ball rolling? I have read different techniques online about training in 3 days or a week. While I would like to take suggestions from these I just don't think we are going to make those kind of goals.

Re: Potty training help!

We wanted dd to show interest and not force the issue. We didn't want to give her anxiety. So for months we had the potties out so she could make friends w it and we read potty books and watched potty DVDs.

One day she said she wanted to go on the potty and that was it! Potty trained in less than 1 week once she was ready!

We did the 3-day method around 27 months. DD had been sitting on the potty and peeing on the potty for a few months, but definitely not consistently. We totally ditched the diapers, gave them to a baby we know, and let her run around the house in undies for the 3+ days. In our case it didn't really kick in until very late on day 3, but I was amazed at how much better the afternoon of day 3 went than the afternoon of day 2.

I would say it was really more of a 5-day thing for pee for her and poop was a much harder issue. I think it probably took a good month to really get the poop in the potty and it took a combo of toy rewards and letting her watch a funny poop in the potty video on youtube while she sat there.

We followed the 3 day method n it worked in one day! I also used food coloring in the toilet. I used red food coloring n asked my dd what color do you think it will change to once you go pee in the potty? She went right away! Then we tried other colors too! We also bought miralax for poop.

Good luck

This. My Dd was also 27 months...and it took closer to 7 days for us, but I wasn't as vigilant as I should have been the first 2 days...once I got the hang of it, so did she. By days 7 we were out diaper & accident free. We luckily had no issues with pooping on the potty...

Potty training help!

Ds is 2 and we started a few months ago. We got a potty and would just ask him here and there if he wanted to sit on it. He always did but would never go. We never pushed since he wasn't even 2. Now he asks us to go potty and today he went on the potty at daycare 3xs.

We still aren't pushing it since he's young.

I would just get them used to sitting on the potty for a few weeks and then maybe try the 3 day method. I would jump to the 3 day without introducing to the potty first.

I potty trained both my kids using my version of the 3 day method. The catch is you need 3 FULL days of doing NOTHING except watching your kid. Someone else cooks & does everything else. No visits from or to anyone.

Both were potty trained "early": DD was 22 months, DS was 26 months. DS showed no signs, DD was interested in the potty and referred to it as "pee pee:".

We wrapped up all rugs, covered all cloth furniture.

Day 1: No underwear, no pants. Kids pee on floor. Notice that they pee, connect urge with pee and pushing. Potty in middle of room. Pull them to potty as they start to pee. Encourage "pee pee in potty". I gave juice day 1 to encourage peeing & sat kids down on potty multiple times. when pee happened in potty, I acted as if I saw the most amazing thing in the world.

Day 2: Continue day 1 method. No more juice. You can start underwear in middle of day. Kid will pee in underwear, so buy lots of them. Potty still in middle of room. Ask every hour or so if kid has to go.

Day 3: Underwear & pants (dress is easier with girls). No more asking (unless a very long time has passed). I'm all up for independence. You can move potty out of room.

No pull ups (the kid has to pee & wet themselves). No diapers at all (except at night, DS is 3.5 and is nowhere near dry at night ever).

Poop is tougher: DS took an extra 3 months of pooping in his underwear before he would use the potty. DD (at 22 months) got the hang of it & asks to poop from day 1.

Don't be discouraged! I had a LOT of people tell me that I couldn't do it: my MIL, SIL (a preschool teacher), babysitter (mother of 3). My kids never regressed & rarely if ever have accidents (esp the girl).

We did the 3 day potty training method, no alterations & it worked in one day. Nighttime too. No pull-ups, etc.

The reason this method worked so well for him was he was ready. He was a few months shy of his 3rd birthday.
