Bunk beds?

DS got these as one of his Christmas gifts.

I just got around to washing the new sheet/comforter sets and making them this morning since he's been away this week and will be coming home this weekend.

Is it just me or are they a huge PITA to make?

I was climbing around the top bunk and actually broke out in a small sweat getting everything to go on correctly.

They are so heavy and bulky and up against one wall too.

Thankfully he prefers to sleep on the bottom which is easier to deal with!

Re: Bunk beds?

Ha...The top bunk is such a PITA. We finally figured out it was easier if we tag teamed it. DH will pull the mattress down from the top bunk. I put the fitted sheet on and then he puts it back. I will throw the flat sheet and comforter and we spread it on either end then tuck one end under.

If I'm being lazy, I make DS go up there and get the side against the wall.

Re: Bunk beds?

Tks. DH was outside shoveling but I actually thought it would be great to just take the stupid mattress down like you described.

Re: Bunk beds?

A friend of mine who is a housekeeper/nanny told me not to think of buying this for the kids. In her exact words, "they are a pain in the ass!"

Re: Bunk beds?

I don't mean this in a bad way but why did you get bunk beds? Just to have an extra bed in the house?

I got a trundle bed to have an extra and even that is difficult to make. But luckily it stays under and my DC doesn't use it so I don't have to deal with it.

For the extra bed (the bottom is a full) and because they will come in handy as DS gets older and may have friends sleepover.

We live in a small house and it's not uncommon to have 3 or 4 guests overnighting here around the holidays. My guest room is extremely tiny and has only a full size bed that my parents often don't fit in comfortably (that's another thread!).

This bed also has room for the trundle underneath.

I had the top bunk in college. It totally sounds like a great idea until you have to change the sheets! Chat Icon

I use to actually do it from being in the bed. I'd take my shoes off, a, climb up there, and kneel at one end & as much as I could, then move to the other end.

I would try to do this when my roommate wasn't home b/c it also involved just throwing the sheets over the side. Chat Icon
