Bummed- Update

I just had my sono and I have 3 cysts so this cycle is a no go. I didn't have my breakdown yesterday after AF came but the tears came flowing this morning when dr. Pena did my sono. I guess I'm just knocked down because my IUI didn't work and now this month I need to take off. He was very very supportive and uplifting though, i'm grateful for that. I'm still in the parking lot, if anyone is here and see's the nut in the trailblazer crying don't be alarmed its just me lol.

Because I have 3 cysts does that mean that I didn't ovulate from those 3 follicles last cycle? Also do u think that they'll be dissolved by next cycle?

Update: dr. Pena's office called me back and said that it would be fine to do a natural cycle with IUI. I asked if my cysts are estrogen producing and they said no they aren't and that typically you could take clomid when they aren't estrogen producing but in my case because the cysts are large dr. Pena doesn't want to take the chance. He wants them to absorb first. I do feel better now that I understand his reasoning for making his initial decision. I need to just relax and stop stressing. Thanks again ladies!

Why did he say you're out this cycle? I had a cyst after my first injectable cycle, but bc it did not produce E, I was able to continue.

I don't know if those cysts were follies - your progesterone was good a week after O, and I think that indicates that you did O.

Sorry I'm not much of a help. Keep positive!!! Do you HAVE to be on clomid? Couldn't he just monitor a natural cycle with IUI (based on what we talked about yesterday)?

XOX Hang in there!

Re: Bummed

Idk I guess he said take a rest this cycle because I have 3 pretty big cysts and he wants them to absorb before I take meds again. He didn't mention anything about an IUI with a natural cycle and I'm so new to this that I of course didn't know to ask abt that. I'm actually thinking abt calling him and asking if I could do that. At least I won't feel like this month is such a bust. Thanks Michelle xoxo!

ETA: I asked him if these cysts mean that I didn't ovulate and he said no I definitely did ovulate.

Re: Bummed

You should know better when blood comes back if they producing estrogen or not. Just so you know, I have had "cysts" after clomid that wound up being leftover follicles that never Oed and then Oed from them early in my cycle. They thought they were cysts on cd3 but then by cd5 or 6 confirmed they were good follicles left over.

When on meds you never know.

Re: Bummed

Ugh I am sorry. After my first cycle was a non-starter because I over responded to clomid, I had a cyst on my left ovary. Was put on BCP for 5 days and because it wasn't producing estrogen my RE wasn't worried about it and he started me on clomid 3 days after my last pill. As other ladies said, he may have a better idea of what's going on after your blood work comes back (re: if its an estrogen producing cyst). Hugs to you Chat Icon

Re: Bummed

I'm sorry to hear that. I've been there too. First to get the news of a bfn, and then a couple days later being told you have to skip a cycle really stinks!!! Hang in there Chat Icon

Re: Bummed

Thanks ladies for the support. Stupid question, what does it mean if the cyst is estrogen producing? Also now that I'm hearing all your stories I'm wondering why my RE automatically shut the chances for this month down. He didn't mention anything abt seeing if the cysts are estrogen producing or offer a natural IUI cycle, it's kinda making me upset. It sounds like most of your RE's would've treated this differently should I be concerned abt this?

Re: Bummed

I would question the RE as to why he didn't mention these options. You have to be totally comfortable with your dr to be able to ask questions and then be confident in his answers. If not, then I would consider a different practice. They may be looking at your numbers and not mentioning anything unless they see something to mention.

I would call and ask

Re: Bummed

I agree with Phyllis - call and speak to them if you have any concerns.

Because the cyst that I have is not producing estrogen (and is a result of the clomid), the RE told me it would dissolve on its own and that it won't prevent or harm pregnancy. So the 5 days on BC pills helped it shrink a little, he drew blood again to check my estrogen levels and noted they were normal. He was not concerned and even though I still have the cyst, we started cycle #2.

Re: Bummed

I actually called the office back this morning to ask about doing a natural IUI cycle but I'm still waiting for a call back. Hopefully they call soon and I'll get to ask him all h questions. I just don't wanna feel like I'm being short handed.

I mean is it totally abnormal for an RE to have a patient take a cycle off due to cysts? I don't wanna act on emotion and jump to conclusions abt my RE either.

I'm glad you got a good explanation for what's going on.

My first cycle with the RE was similar. We had to cancel Clomid because I had a humongous cyst. It was so large they actually mentioned surgery. But the cyst reabsorbed and was 100% gone by my next sono 4 weeks later. I couldn't do IUI because I don't usually ovulate on my own; if you do, you're still in the running this month. Good luck and I hope your cysts go away as quickly as mine did!

Re: Bummed- Update

After my first Clomid IUI cycle I developed a cyst on my left ovary. My RE said it was common, and that because clomid causes you to produce multiple follicles, but not all of the follicles had become mature when I took the Ovidrel trigger shot, that an immature follicle did not release its egg, but instead it continues to grow and becomes a cyst. My RE did not mention anything about estrogen producing vs non-estrogen producing either, but she did want me to take a cycle off of the clomid so she could monitor it and make sure it went away on its own. She did mention that a natural IUI cycle was an option, but the success rates are very low, and we are out of pocket so she did not want to give me high hopes. I tried it anyways though. Following month, the cyst was gone. I have used clomid 3 more cycles and did not have another cyst. I know it is so frustrating and overwhelming in the beginning, but at least you know you are not alone! Most of us have been there!
