What is your school's lice policy?
I was shocked to find out our school's lice policy - i.e. there is no policy - the infected child can return to school the very next day and is not re-checked and no proof of treatment required. I was really surprised by this and wondering if this is the norm? TIA!

Doesn't seem like it's the norm! Our school has the policy on the school's website. Children sent home with lice must be treated and show proof of treatment or pediatrician must present clearance for child to return to school. When they do return to school, the child must report to the nurses office first, before home room, to be checked again. There is a no nit policy. The class that the child is in is checked by the nurse and so are the classes that may have a sibling of the infected student in it. A letter always go home to the whole school stating a child has been treated for lice and asks that we diligently check our kids often.

Eww totally not the norm. I haven't personal experience yet at DD's school but their policy is on the nurse's portion of our school site. Not only are they checked but the site says they are rechecked in 10 days. It says if they have siblings in the district they are also pulled and checked.

I'm in NC....but we were having a similar problem & SKEEVED me!!!
Kids were allowed to return if being treated, & LIVE lice were less than prior days. Made no sense & it's was becoming a school spread problem!
Needless to say parents spoke up! While it's not a health issue, it's PITA!!! As of last month they changed the policy & no live lice allowed!
Surprisingly there are states that are starting to allow children into schools with it.

Re: What is your school's lice policy?
We have a no nit policy (meaning that if there are nits present, the child cannot be in school). My school nurse said that this policy is not common and a lot of schools cannot send students home just because of seeing nits (must see live lice).
