Re: Thanks target
I don't know if it's related, but DH's business partner called this morning, and noticed yesterday there were about 6 random charges in their business account at McDonald's, Walgreens and some random liquor store in a not-so-great neighborhood.
Both of them used the debit card in Target too back when this all came up.
I was hesitant about even posting because of how my debit post got completely out of hand a week ago.
Good luck to everyone who is dealing with this now. Just goes to show that I wasn't so crazy for being concerned.
ETA: He's on the phone now talking about it. It's about $400 in charges too.

Re: Thanks target
That sucks. And I'm sure this will be going on for months if not years to come. Since it was much worse than they expected.
Not sure if anyone has seen this yet. But Neiman Marcus was also hit by hackers.

UGH! I saw on the news yesterday they underestimated the original number of people that were hacked. It went from 40 million to 70 million!
I'm so sorry this happened.

Re: Thanks target
My mother had the same thing happen to her. All the charges were on LI. I wonder if it was from Target or just a random have the charge card info stolen. The total was $1600. Two of the charges were really high, the same exact amount and at two different Targets. The thieves also like burgers judging by the charges at Bobby's burger palace, Burger King, and McDonald's. Also they were too lazy to pay for gas. .
All the charges were in Nassau county.

Because i had shopped at target my bank called said they are issuing me a new card and my old one would still be able to be used but they decreased how much could be charged, until i received the new one. I was very impressed!

Yeah, I received a new card from Chase about a week ago.
DH said they won't know how this is going to be handled until Monday because all of the charges are pending right now.
A big charge at some fish store and Petco also is added to the list!
ETA: I have never heard from TD how this is being handled. We have our joint accounts from there but I rarely use the debit, only have that account to pay our bills which I do online or through a paper check.
Their business account is through TD however.

It's interesting how the numbers are being used locally. I would think with a nationwide breach that local breached accounts would be used in other places besides long island.

IMO Target is full of crap and we will be hearing a little more bad news each week. I think Target already knew and knows more and knew it from day one. I also heard yesterday that more info was compromised than they initially thought , like email addresses etc.How did they not know this immediately?? I think they will just keep admitting to a little more each week now that the holidays are over. I am beyond disgusted with Target. How could they have NOT known all this sooner? Good luck with everything!

I agree.
It's also concerning to me, that, while I am sure the bank will do the right thing, how long does this process take, especially because it's from a CASH account (not a credit card).
DH needs to pay his guys and purchase supplies for jobs.
It's a really ****** thing.

P.S. The account was closed but just looking at the bigger picture here multiplying it by the amount of people potentially affected, KWIM?

I would imagine.
While the movie is dramatic, obviously, did you ever see the comedy Identity Thief?
This is what she did. Jason Bateman's character went to pay for gas and couldn't.

That was my thought as well. Unless you used your debit/ credit card ONLY at Target, this could be the result of using it anywhere. Restaurants are notorious for having skimmers. I also remember in the news a couple of months someone installed a skimmer on the LIRR machines in Queens I believe it was.
I'm going to have my bank issue me a new debit card tomorrow to be on the safe side

If you haven't done so already, definitely cancel the old car once you activate the new one. I was told that the my old card (Chase debit) is still valid until the end of January even if the new card is activated.

This happened to or account a few days ago. Someone tried to charge $580 dollars to our chase account at a toys r us. Weird thing it wasn't my card used but DHs card, I'm the one that shopped at target using my debit card. However, he was alerted via text msg right away and the transaction was declined so no money was taken out. He called and cancelled the card and got a new one the next day.
Since it was his card, I don't think could've have been target scam. However, I do believe it was him using those stupid local ATM machine. They can copy your card, this happens to him before. I think he finally learned his lesson. I know it's unrelated but as an extra warning, please avoid using the ATM machines at the bodega, 7-eleven or quick check etc

Re: Thanks target
If someone were affected by the breach, why not cancel your CC and wait for a new one with a new number. For debit accounts, close your account and open a new one with a new number. Create a new pin number. If there are outstanding checks, let the person know you are going to send a new one.
It is annoying to try and change any automatic payments, but for peace of mind if this happened to me it would've been the first thing I did. It was widely publicized. Not to be rude, but am I missing something?

Re: Thanks target
I will never shop in Target again. Thankfully I stepped foot in a Target in over 6 months so I wasn't affected.
But there is absolutely nothing more that annoys me is when my credit card companies change my numbers and issue new cards. I have to change all my auto pays and its a real pain in the azz.

Re: Thanks target
What I am not understanding is why anyone who shopped at Target during the breach still has their old cards? The bank cancelled mine and reissued new ones.
Why would anyone be using a card that is known to be compromised?
