bedbugs at Disney World?

I am trying to book a disney vacation for the fall, but every single hotel seems to have terrible bedbug reports. I am so skeeved! Has anyone experienced anything like this at one of the Disney hotels? Every time I feel like I have picked a hotel, I read another report about bedbugs. It is making me crazy.

Don't every stay at any hotel, and for that matter don't shop at Nordstroms, go to the movies etc. all joking aside. The sad and yucky point is that unfortunately they are found anywhere. I think all hotels have or had them at some point. I am more concerned about if they check and how they react. I would not stress it but I do recommend checking your room no matter where you stay. Keep in.mind that sometimes people get them flying and they transfer from your bag to the room. Totally makes me itchy thinking about it...but there are sites that show you how to check. Disney generally is better than most about getting rid of the issue. I was more worried last trip about the snakes and snakes in the room than the bed bugs.

bedbugs at Disney World?

I went to Disney in 2011, 2012, and 2013. I stayed at a deluxe, a moderate and a value resort. No bedbugs anywhere - and yes, I check a before unpacking, or even opening the suitcases.

I have never heard of bedbugs at Disney. The Disney hotels are really spotless; the mousekeepers are trained very well.

although there are no guarantees, I would trust Disney more than others to take care of this. they run their properties so well. I have never had any issues.

Re: bedbugs at Disney World?

We stayed at the Contemporary last June and had bed bugs. I cannot even begin to tell you how freaked out I was but Disney handled the whole thing so professionally.

The experience I had would not prevent me from staying at another Disney hotel. Bed bugs can happen anywhere! I do, however, thoroughly check hotel rooms now before getting comfortable. And I do mean THOROUGHLY. A quick look won't cut it. We strip the bed completely, including the dust ruffle. We check each layer of bedding front and back to make sure they're clear. We also check the mattress top and bottom and also pull down the roping edge of the mattress to look for bugs or blood. Finally, we check any upholstered chairs or sofas. It sounds like a lot but after our bed bug experience I don't take any chances. I'd rather take 15 minutes to check the room thoroughly than bring those suckers home.

Also, I'd probably stay away from the bed bug registry. If you keep checking it you'll never ever want to stay in a hotel room again.

ETA: If you fly anywhere it's a good idea to also check the outside of your suitcases for bugs as well as your clothing. Sounds gross but you can pick up stuff from the airplane and bring it into your hotel room.

I've been to the poly twice and we've been ok. But, as soon as we got in the room I did a very intense inspection Chat Icon Chat Icon I would do that for sure!

bedbugs at Disney World?

We stayed ad Disney resorts in 2008, 2009, 2010 and just recently. Never had any issues with bed bugs. As a matter of fact the last visit we saw them walking around with the bed bug dog. I believe IF you find bed bugs which is common in ANY hotel...Disney rectifies it quickly. I would never let the fear of bed bugs stop me from going anywhere...I would be a hermit Chat Icon

Re: bedbugs at Disney World?

Pretty much every hotel in the world has had bedbugs. ANYONE can bring them in. It's how the hotel deals with it that is important.

Disney has inspections with bedbug sniffing dogs. If a family reports bedbugs they buy them new clothes, fumigate everything the family had in the room, fumigate the room and move the family. They take bedbugs VERY seriously. I have been to Disney World more times than I can count, all in the past 10 years and I have never seen a bedbug. And this is at all levels of hotel.

Re: bedbugs at Disney World?

Everywhere has bed bugs. Disney gets them, can't prevent them, but they are amazing at dealing with them.
Don't drive yourself crazy with the bed bug registry. I would never stay anywhere if I focused on that.

Definitely check your bed and the room for signs of bedbugs regardless of where you're staying. Report any signs to the front desk immediately.

Disney has always handled the situation quickly and professionally and it won't ruin your magical experience.

In my 29 years of going to Disney, and all of my professional years of selling Disney vacations I have not personally had bed bugs nor have my clients. It does happen though. I've seen them dealing with the situation in resorts I've stayed in.
It's an unfortunate part of the travel/hospitality industry but don't let it sway you from staying at amazing resorts.

bedbugs at Disney World?

We have never had bedbug at a Disney hotel (nor anywhere else) DH does check first thing. I think that with so many rooms, their rate of bedbugs must be very low. Unless every review mentioned bedbugs, I wouldn't let that factor into my stay anywhere.
