Hi girls

Just need some advise. My dr just called me to let me know that my AMH level is 0.63. Dr said that the level should be above 1 for my age 33. She said that i should meet up with a fertility dr. I am a little bit scared of going to a specialist as i am not sure what is the process. Any good books or websites that might help me understand everything. What do you think are my options of getting pregnant?

I have a dd who is turning 2 in few weeks.

Thanks a lot
Aggie

This site has been the best for me to learn abut what we are all going through, so welcome!

My gyn referred me to a repro endo and this was our experience:

They took blood from myself and my husband and explained the testing process. She gave my husband a script for a semen analysis, myself a script for an HSG (test where they use x-ray to check out the uterus and Fallopian tubes to make sure there are no blockages) and told me to call back on the first day of my next cycle to schedule bloodwork for day 3 of the cycle.

My doctor told me not to worry and after the results from those things came in we would have a better idea of what was going on and we would meet again to explore our options but she didn't do that on the first day because she felt it can be overwhelming.

As an aside, I am 29, and my bloodwork came back with an AMH of 0.6 and I was told that it should be above 1 at my age also. 6 months later, I consulted another RE who wanted to redo my bloodwork because she thought it was odd that my AMH was low, while all my other hormone levels were pretty good, and I am young. The second time my AMH came back at 2.03. Apparently, the first lab made an error because AMH does not increase and certainly shouldn't vary so much from lab to lab. So I am a big proponent of getting a second opinion. If you do visit a specialist, bring your test results but ask her to rerun them..... Maybe you will get good news!

Welcome. This board has been the best for me with learning about everything IF. Yes, your AMH is on the lower side but you are only 33 and you have a DD already so that is a plus. Many ladies on this board with lower AMH than you have gotten pregnant. We are unexplained. If you have questions you can search in the search tab on this website. I also search topics on thebump if I want to get an our of New York perspective.

Going to a RE seems scary but if I can do it you can. If you choose the right RE he/she will make you feel comfortable. When you go there you will get initial BW, a sono, and your DH will do a SA at some point. A lot of times REs start with IUI and then IVF if needed. I got an HSG and a saline sono at the beginning of the process. Your RE will explain everything to you at the initial consult. GL
