Craigslist - that's how I got my current job managing a neurology practice. Just hound it and send out tons of resumes. I think I sent out a few hundred (email, fax and snailmail), I also googled doctors offices and sent my resume, and I walked into practices that were local to me. Tell them not to turn down any interview, because you never know what might be happening behind the scenes (I interviewed for receptionist, then 3 weeks later got a call about a management position). It's a full-time job to job hunt... but jobs are out there! If I hear anything I'll keep this thread in mind.

Re: Medical Office Manager

Also tell her to consider places like home care agencies which are still very much health care.

Often they hire for roles like this.

Like a PP mentioned, she should be open minded too.

I have known people to get hired for lower level roles and because they were good, worked their way up quickly.

Even social service related agencies are good places to try.

Non-profits especially, the salary might be a little lower but the benefits tend to be pretty amazing.

I'd also suggest the NSLIJ health system but you pretty much have to know someone to get a job anywhere in the system.

This is how our new Admin will be coming in (friends of a current employee).

Very difficult to get into NSLIJ, especially for these positions, from what I can tell if you are a provider - nurse, pa, np, etc, - it's a bit easier, but for administrative positions, they get (i'll guess) 1000's of applications weekly - considering I got hundreds when I worked at South Nassau.

Def keep the hospitals in mind though, they are ALWAYS hiring for various management positions!

It's crazy. When I went to orientation (I got my job because I knew people), they said they get on average 30,000 resumes a year.
