question HSG
This is all very new to me and I am getting a bit confused. If someone was able to stim and produce eggs does that mean their tubes are clear. This is what I was told, so that, if I was going straight to embryo transfer HSG is not needed. HSG is might only be needed for an IUI and if getting insurance coverage. I am hesitant to have an HSG done because of the radiation, though the amount is small. I had cancer 18 months ago so I stay away from anything extra. Thank you

If you are doing IVF then it should not matter if your tubes are blocked since fertilization is not occurring in the fallopian tube.

I did an HSG even though I was going through IVF bc I wanted to see if my tubes were clear or not. More of piece of mind. Thank god I did bc it was because of that test that they wanted to do another water sono and they found I had a uterine septum and had surgery shortly after.

Last month the RE did a saline sono and my uterus looks good. Painless procedure. I have a fibroid,which I knew but it is on the outside. Part of me wants to have the HSG for peace of mind, since I have had major abdominal surgery but...if not required I might hold off.

HSG is not just for tubal diagnosis. Drs also use it to detect polyps, abnormalities in the uterus itself, scar tissue and endo. It's not just to see if tubes are clear and that's why most REs use it as part of initial testing, IVF or not.

Exactly. It's bc of this test that they were able to detect my issue. It was worth the risk and minor discomfort.

This is true.
However, just because you are able to stim and produce eggs does NOT mean your tubes are clear. Totally separate functions.
