chronic diaper rashes-help

After almost 10 days of rashes on both my twins I got a script for mupirocin and it cleared it up. we finished using it for dd yesterday and today she has another rash! What amn I doing wrong? We haven't changed anything- not diapers, wipes, lotions etc. They are eating slightly more bread. They're pooping tons (which is.normal for them) but it's really stinky lately.
I'm doing butt paste, letting them air out, baking soda baths. I'm going to change back to swaddlers but I don't really believe it's the diapers since we've been using them since August.
What else should I do?

Don't use wipes... Use cotton balls and warm water or rinse out the wipes really well with warm water.

Pampers gave my DD rashes. When she was a newborn they were fine, then all of a sudden she had a constant rash. After switching diaper brands and the rash went away, I realized what it was. Try a different brand for a couple of days just to see...

i ended up switching to an organic diaper
no wipes.
dont wipe urine, only poop with damp paper towels.
air them out as often as possible.
it could be a recurrent yeast infection if nothing else helps

sounds like its more of a yeast rash so I dont think changing diapers and wipes will work. My dd starting getting these and it helped to always use powder on her. Also we cut back on juices and gave her more yogurt and started with giving her probiotics. that has really helped! good luck

Not sure what diapers you were using, but both times we tried target, DS got a terrible diaper rash. We just stick with swaddlers and huggies overnights for night time.

My DD always had a diaper rash.. so at night i would put a thick layer for Desitin max, and change once in between. Late last year, she had a fungal type of rash and we kept treating and it wouldn't budge. I read online to wash her bottom with vinegar and water mixture and within days it cleared up. I slowly took her off it in two weeks, and it was good. Anytime the skin felt rough, I would use OTC hydrocortisone and Desitin.. cleared it right up. Sometimes I would go a bit higher, and it worked out. I ended up going to a pediatric derm for her diaper rashes because the pediatrician was not cutting it for me..good luck!

Earths best wipes and diapers is what I have to use/ No chlorine in them. Also use Nystatin, Buttpaste, and then glob on Balmex in that exact oredr. Also leave them Naked for as lons as you can.

DD suffered with the same thing for quite a while. We tried every wipe, diaper, cream, went to the dr multiple times, treated for diaper yeast infection. It would clear up and then start all over again. Turned out it was dairy that was causing it. My ped was insistent that it wasn't dairy but as soon as we switched her to almond milk, the problem went away. Not sure if this is the case with your LO but worth checking into. Best of luck, I know how awful it can be to see them in pain from such a pad rash.

Did the doctor think there was a bacterial infection or is that cream just a common diaper rash prescription?
If you changed diaper sizes recently, there may be more or different stuff in them for extra absorbancy.
It could be diet as the PP suggested. A chronic reaction doesn't always show up right away.
I haven't tried it, but some others on LIF have recommended a diluted grapefruit seed extract spray. I think it's antifungal and antibacterial.

At night I found that putting corn starch on instead of cream worked better. I figure maybe because it dried out instead of being moist. I know when dd gets a new tooth it happens

i havent changed diapers recently. i am getting ascript for nystatin because i want to cover all my bases but the doc thinks its a plain old rash that wont go away. im so not ok with that.
right now we're going to try treating it as a yeast and see if it goes away.

about the cornstarch- how do i use it? do i not put anything else in the diaper? what about when she pees? it will become a clumpy mess, no?

DD had really bad diaper rashes when an newborn. I bought the really big rectangular cosmetic pads in cvs (clear square packaging with writing in turquoise) and kept a squirt bottle of water at the changing table. We only used these for diaper changes for awhile, and then Graduated to water wipes (diapers.com). To this day, any other wipe gives her a rash.

She was also sensitive to any product with zinc oxide, so we just used A&D or aquaphor.

Had the exact same thing with one of my boys. Went to an allergist and it was lactose! Switch to lactose free milk and cook with it too.

Not sure if this will help you, but my DD had a diaper rash about a month ago that got a little better but never fully went away. It was worse in the morning and less red by night. After 4 days I went to the pediatrician and it turned out to be prickly heat. It looked like a rash, but there were little red bumps as well. Turned out it was because I was overdressing her at night. I was told wipe and corn starch only. That anything moist (like rash cream, paste, or oil) would make it worse. 24 hours later, it was gone.

ETA: I saw your question about cornstarch. cornstarch can be found in J&J baby powder. I used that. Just put some on the red areas. Not too much. Just apply to all the areas generously and rub into the skin. It shouldn't clump.
