Meanest grandparents ever
In IDC in bellmore filled with families for a valentine restaurant enjoying dinner and in comes grandma and grandpa and two kids young maybe 4 or 5. They were the most verbally abusive, nasty, bone chilling people I have ever seen. I get taking the kids so parents can have a night out but the kids did not deserve the verbal lashing they got very two seconds. I felt very very sorry for them - and wonder if their parents know how pure mean those grandparents are to their kids. The boy dropped his fork and the grandmother slammed her fists on the table and grandfather ripped the stuffed dog valentines they were holding and said that's it you don't deserve these.... All the kid did was move his plate and his fork fell. So sad :(

That's horrible. Sounds like an episode of "what would you do". Dh jokes if they ever got me on that show I would go off on people like that.

We thought the same thing and we stayed longer than we would normally to make sure that as bad as it was it didn't get worse. When they sat down both kids rushed to one side next to each other -- which was back to back with my mother in law and son.

Many older people have no patience. They will say back in their day coughing without covering your mouth was a felony offense!

IMO you saw a snapshot. You have Zero knowledge of anything that goes on. Unless you sees physical abuse I would MYOB.

That little snapshot would be enough to make me believe these are just downright nasty grandparents. If that is how they treat them in public, I cringe imagining what goes on behind closed doors.
It appears she did mind her own business though, as she did not intervene.

You are right I did see a "snapshot"- but that snapshot was in a public restaurant, whats worse was that we were literally back to back and HEARD every word. We did not intervene because the kids didn't seem all that phased by being berated every few minutes. Was there are "before", did they have a hard day, are the kids difficult....frankly I REALLY DONT CARE. If they couldn't handle the kids then they should have not put themselves in a situation where they displayed obvious distain for having to be with these two children.
I did not post the whole scene. These "grandparents" told the two kids to "shut up", asked them what they wanted to eat and then when they chose told them their eats habits were "disgusting", and were relentless in berating them. It was non-stop from the secon they walked in. We did stay longer to make sure that the kids were okay, my son tried to say hi to them and they weren't allowed to say hi back. Did the kids seems overwelhmed and completely distressed - NO. Which is the reason we did not act.
Was this an acceptable display of behavior by these two adults? I do not believe so - in fact - if there were other things going on and they clearly couldn't handle (or IMHO be bothered) then A - dining out should have been rethought and more importantly they should not have taken the task to begin with.
I feel awful for those two children and I still wonder if their parents know how they are treated outside of their prescense.

So sad, those poor little kids. I'm just grateful I know I would never have to worry about something like this...reminds me that my kids are blessed to have wonderful grandparents.
