Spinoff from carseats - when did you let grandparents drive dc in the car?

I am having a hard time with this. I don't want anyone to drive her really. My dad is a good driver, my mom is ok, but I feel FH's mom is not too great. There have been several occasions where I felt nervous in the car with her. What should I do? It would be too difficult to allow one and not the other. Its not like its a necessity right now but if it comes up.

We don't allow any relatives to drive our DC. I guess luckily for us, they are *all* horrible and/or scary and/or dangerous drivers, so it's easy enough to make a blanket statement for all of them.... Chat Icon

I would have FH talk to his mom, and you talk to your parents, either way you decide. Have a huge list of rules for driving, and let them know that priveledges can be revoked at any time. Your baby, your rules...

My parents drove Ava around right away. I trust them with every ounce of my being. I also trust my sister to drive safely. I mean, I wouldn't just throw her in the car with anyone, but I'm not neurotic about it either.

My SIL and my parents are the only ones that have driven with DD in the car. SIL is her babysitter so she has to be able to go out during the day or else they would go crazy at home all day.

Mikey was about 2 months old when I let my inlaws drive with him. I felt funny that first time, but I completely and totally trust them. Now I have no problems.

It hasn't come up yet, but I really have no issue with my mom driving Luca around. My dad is a really bad driver and I will avoid having him drive DS around and the akward conversation that will ensue for as long as possible. And unless it were an extremely weird situation, I don't see any reason for my dad to drive him anywhere anyway. As for my MIL, she's nervous to driver herself around, so I don't see her even wanting to go anywhere with the baby- plus she only watches him for 2 hours at a time. Maybe when he gets a little older she may want to take him to the grocery store, but that's only down the block.

Same here. They are both probably the safest drivers I know.
