Food allergies
I have a family member coming to visit who is allergic to peanut, sesame, soy, shellfish, corn and wheat. I want to go to the supermarket to have some food and snacks in the house. Any suggestions?

For snacks - potato chips, veggies, dip - NOT hummus because of the tahini (sesame), though TJs makes a sesame free version. Rice crackers, cheese.
For regular meal type food, as a starch make rice or potatoes instead of pasta or couscous. Are you going to be cooking a meal?
Biggest tip - make sure to read the labels - if it says "made on equipment that processes..." or "may contain..." do not get it.

Re: Food allergies
What about asking them in advance about what they like to eat? I think it's too hard to attempt to buy this kind of stuff.

Re: Food allergies
You really cannot buy food for a corn allergic person, unless you get specifics from them (down to the brand). My kids are both allergic to corn and never in a million years could they eat something someone else bought or prepared (they wouldn't even be able to eat off your dishes). With food allergies, always ask first, and please don't be offended if they bring their own food.

I didn't realize this was in the OP but I agree with your rec because she pointed out to me that corn is in almost everything in the American diet.

This is what I do and they usually let me know.
