Private School and Buses
DS will be going to Catholic school for kindergarten next year and he'll be taking the bus for the first time. I'm filling out his bus paperwork now. Pick up is fine as DH will be home, but after school he goes either home or to his grandma's house. Will they give me a hard time if he doesn't take the bus home everyday? If they do give me a hard time, they can't drop him off at a different place from pick up every day right? Just trying to figure out what to do! Thank you

Re: Private School and Buses
Can grandma come to your house and take him off the bus? I know a bus has to follow a bus route for a reason. He's put on a specific bus for a reason. The route they go on is easy for the driver to pick up each kid at their home. You can't change the whole route so he goes to his grandmothers and she may not even be in the district. They most likely won't allow it and it's also not fair to the other kids who will possibly go home later. Can you make a schedule with the driver? Maybe he gets off the bus Mon, Tues and Friday and Wed and THurs he's not on the bus? Just an example. Not only is it not fair to the driver and other families on the bus, but most likely won't be allowed. We have playdates with friends in the morning and then they go home to go on their bus bc the boys aren't on the same bus even though they're in the same class.

Unfortunately my mom watches many other kids and won't be able to go to my house to get him. I think we'll just tell the teacher he has to be picked up at school, rather than take the bus, a few days a week. Thanks!

i think if you make a schedule with them up front it shouldn't be a problem. but you'd have to say, ex. monday, wednesday and friday drop off at home, tuesday and thursday drop at grandmas. it can't be up in the air. they have to plan the routes.

For us it's no problem - on days we have to pick him up from school, we send in a note stating he is a walker that day. If you have a set schedule, they should be able to coordinate it with you. I know our school has aftercare and some kids only go on certain days and other days they go home and it's not a problem. But I don't think the bus can drop your DS at a different stop depending upon the day - only your house.

Re: Private School and Buses
My kids are in Catholic school and take the bus. There are many times they stay after school for activities or I pick them up for some reason, so they don't take the bus. Never an issue. I don't need to tell anyone at the bus company, just his teacher so she knows where to send them at dismissal.
