How far is too far for a bday party?
A little bit of a spinoff to my original post about bday parties ....
How far is too far to travel for a classmate's party? We just received an invitation to a party that is about 20 miles away on a holiday weekend. Am I wrong for wanting to skip it?

It depends how good of a friend. But there could also be various reasons why it's further too like better cost. My SIL also works for LICM and just had a party there. It's about 30 minutes away for us with no traffic.

It takes me 20 minutes to get anywhere local so that wouldn't deter us

How far is too far for a bday party?
We often travel more than 20 miles to do fun family activities, so traveling that far for a birthday party wouldn't phase me in the slightest.

How far is too far is a personal thing. For some more than a few minute drive is for others a 40 min drive is.
If you don't want to drive say no

Re: How far is too far for a bday party?
I don't know, if it were a really great party location, I would be willing to go further. A friend of mine told me when her kids were little there was a party at the central park zoo - now that would be too far for me, coming from Nassau. 20 miles I would probably do if it were at least partially highway driving.
It would also depend how close my DS is to the birthday boy or girl, but generally, if we get invited, we go unless we had previous plans

How far is too far for a bday party?
Not wrong. We received one from people in DS' class that's over half an hour away and we aren't attending (we have something else at the same time but, I probably wouldn't have gone anyway).
It kind of annoys me since there are similar places (bounce places) closer to us so I'm not sure why they chose there (they live farther from the place than we do).

Maybe the majority of the host's family/friends live near the further location.

How far is too far for a bday party?
I held DD's 3rd b-day party at Atlantis Marine World in Riverhead. Her friends from daycare in Smithtown, to my friends in Lindenhurst & Hicksville showed up. Distance is relative.

Honestly I wouldn't be "annoyed". There are other things in life to get annoyed at IMHO. I know a friend held hers in a further bounce location because it cost 1/2 as much as the ones on the Nassau/Suffolk border. Those parties start around 5 or 6 hundred dollars as we all know. If you can get a good price, I think that's smart. I think your post is a little harsh and judgmental but typical for this site.

Sorry you feel that I am harsh and judgemental (since you never are) - that was not my intention. I just don't feel that it's convenient to spend almost the same amount in the car as I would at the 90 minute party for a daycare classmate. For a close friend/relative, sure but, I think it's a lot for a daycare party (unless it was at someplace unique). Who knows, maybe they are having it farther in hopes of people feeling the same way I am.
The OP asked if she was justified in not wanting to go to the party - and I feel that if she feels it's too far, she shouldn't feel obligated to attend.

I've been invited to morning parties at the licm (we leave in eastern suffolk). I've declined bc it was too far.
