Adnoid removal without tubes?
Hi Everyone,
I could use as much experienced advice as possible ..... we are very torn on what best to do for our 5 year old.
Looking for feedback from Moms that had their children's adnoids removed without the tubes?
Or did anyone do just the slit in the ear (sorry gross), which is a different kind of procedure then the tubes?
My daughter just has fluid that won't leave on it's own and we're trying to figure out what best to do.
Seeing an excellent doctor but he's really wanting us to make the decision.

Adnoid removal without tubes?
My son had his adenoid removed (along with tonsils). He didn't have fluid in his ears though. His adenoid was just very enlarged. Nothing was ever said about tubes.

Re: Adnoid removal without tubes?
We did. My DD had adenoids removed and a partial tonsil. She had some fluid in her ear. The dr waited until he had her out and a better look to decide on a single tube. He decided she did not need it, and it was the right decision. She had a lot of fluid trapped behind her enormous adenoids which were even bigger than originally thought when removed. We used Dr Ward at NYU (in best drs). The other ENT wanted to do a full tonsil and adenoids as well as tubes in both ears.
Best decision ever. She was getting sick over and over and daily headaches, and not sleeping well.

Re: Adnoid removal without tubes?
My DD had the tonsils, adenoids and tubes. I didn't want tubes but that was the way our Dr treated it.
The adenoids sit at the base of the eustachian tube if they are too big they don't allow the Eustachian tube to open and drain so by removing them this will hopefully allow the middle ear to drain fluid should go away.
