I'm done making my kids' childhood magical
I thought this was a great article. We do really simple birthday parties, but most of the time I feel like I have to explain to people that it's just that so they don't come in with high expectations.

Re: I'm done making my kids' childhood magical
I totally agree with this, I always say I don't parent like everyone else, I love my girls dearly but I don't fawn over their every move and entertain them all day long, I want them to learn how to take care of themselves and discover fun too

Re: I'm done making my kids' childhood magical
I so needed this today. My husband was seriously injured a few months ago and can't work. We have no income. My DD's birthdays are coming up and everyone wants to know which bouncy place or gym we are having the party at. My preschoolers teacher asked me if my younger DD was going to camp this summer, and I just wanted to cry because it's asked of me almost weekly and when I say we can't afford camp this summer I get looks as if I just said I beat my kid. My older daughter is doing great with gymnastics but i know i have to pull her out of the pre team program soon because of the expense and i know she will be very sad. It's bad enough to let down your kids, but no one needs the pressure of "I can't believe your oldest is going to be 6 and you haven't been to Disney". I'm happy we still have a house and food.
