What age did your LO say their first word?
When they said it, was it said in context?

DD said dada a few days before 6 months. I think when I noted it it was bc it was in context. It was another month probably before she said mama and by then she was saying daddy instead of dada. She also said "hi" in context. At 8 months she had a small handful of words or phrases like "all done". I remember being surprised bc she would apply it in new settings on her own (started in the context of eating but then she would say it when I hung up the phone or finished reading her a book). DD has always been very early with things language related but she was delayed with motor skills.

Re: First words

Besides mama and dada. My kids first words were Hot and More. They were both said at about 8-9 months and in context for the situation so we knew they knew what they were talking about.

I had put food on the table, which I thought was out of my son's reach, but he was able to grab it as I was getting a spoon. I had said no touch and hot to him, but he grabbed it. And as tears welled in his little eyes, he said HOT. But he was smiling because he knew what hot meant and was able to articulate it. He repeated it again while pointing at the food.

I was feeding DD and she had finished the apple sauce. She looked at me and said more. So I gave her more apple sauce.

Re: First words

I don't remember when DD said mama or dada because of the baby babble. But for awhile she called both of us dada lol. At 10 months she said dog and it was within context.

Mama and dada were at 7 months. Still waiting to see if any other words will appear. She's 11 months. The other day we swore she said yeah when I asked if she was eating Os but I think it was just baby babble.

Re: First words

DD was an early talker although it didn't stay that way. By 6 months old she was saying "hi" "mama" and "dada" in context, correctly and often. Around 7-9 months she added more words like "nom-nom" for food and "up". At a year old she was doing some sign language, for instance "all done" and would sometimes say all done. She also added the words "banana" and "uh-oh". Now at 19 months she is at almost the same place. weird LOL.

DD2's first word was around 9 months and it was "uh oh" - any time she dropped something she would say it! Now she is 11 months and says mama and yeah (for yes). She sometimes repeats things I say, but isn't using the words yet.

DS1 said mama first but dada was the first word he said where he got the meaning. Like he saw DH and said "dada!" This was around 6 months give or take.

In terms of language beyond that, his first word was cookie (for Cookie Monster) and he said it at 10 months.

Re: First words

DD said dada in context around 9 mos.,then stopped. She says tons of consonant-vowel combos now at 15 mos. but has no words at all. If she's not saying anything by 18 mos., we will have to do an ei eval.
