accent ceiling?
Hi all. We need to repaint the upstairs of our apartment. Our kitchen/dining area/living room is just one big space, and we have 14" ceilings. We are going to paint the walls an off-white (maybe something like BM "timid white" or "linen white"), and the wall bordering the kitchen a dark green (maybe something like BM "peale green"), and my husband was saying that it might be nice to paint the ceiling as an accent color, either a lighter green or a darker beige (my idea, since I think a lighter green would be too much). Has anyone every seen/done an accent ceiling?
And then would the baseboards, back door, and other doors that are currently white be painted to match the ceiling color?
I've attached a couple pictures of my apartment, excuse the mess. Image Attachment(s):

Re: accent ceiling?
IMO I wouldn't paint the ceiling. Bring your accent colors in with art and accessories. The ceiling looks too big and high to achieve a cozy look of a painted ceiling. If anything, I would look into adding wood beams but I don't think it would work with the ductwork/soffit on the other side and certainly not without changing your light fixtures.
If you do paint it, I would not paint the trim and doors to match.

Yeah, we are definitely not changing out light fixtures, since we just put them in. Wood beams would look weird in here, anyway. The ceiling color wouldn't necessarily be a color we use throughout the apartment, it would be a neutral color.

I like the idea. When we were deciding on colors for the different rooms in our house, one of the BM brochures I looked at had a room with a light/bright green ceiling. It looked great in the pic, but I chickened out and didn't do it - but I still think about it and might try it eventually.

I wouldn't consider a shade of white an accent ceiling. But I will tell you ceiling white tends to hide imperfections in the ceiling that a typical flat will not hide.

Yeah, we need to have the ceiling fully fixed before painting. The electricians patched it when they installed the lights, but we never smoothed out the patches. We are going to have the contractor/painter do it. It wouldn't be a shade of white per se... more of a light tan?
I found a thing on the BM website that lets you "paint" in a picture...so it would be something like this: Image Attachment(s):

Yeah, that would definitely be too much for me, for the amount of ceiling it would be make it bright green - but I think a neutral might be nice, no?

I really like the pic you posted with the light tan - I think it looks great. Not too much, but still different and interesting.

Thanks! The more I look at it the more I like it, too. But what color for the baseboards/doors?
