dental implant/flipper
i had to get my front tooth pulled. i have a flipper but it doesn't seem to fit quite right yet, they say because of swelling. this whole thing is kind of depressing. has anyone else had a dental implant? this process sounds horrific. any insights or words or encouragement?

Re: dental implant/flipper
Haven't done it yet... But I am in the process of looking for a place that takes my insurance (I know that actual implant isn't covered), but the rest of it is... My friends mom had all of her bottom teeth done and she said it really wasn't bad and she freaks out over every thing... She had the teeth pulled and the implants places on the same day...

I had a tooth pulled and the "screw" for the implant put in for the same day...
I ended up with a very serious infection- that has likely damaged my sinus for LIFE! (its been 2 years- and still suffering!)
I will never have an implant done again...ever!

My DH had this done but for all four of his top front teeth. It was a long process, he had to have a lot of bone grafting and gum surgery done. But he's had the implants in for over 3 years now and it's great. He can eat whatever he wants and they look great too, you could never tell if you didn't already know. GL! I know how stressed you must be but it will all work out fine.
ETA: Try not to worry too much about the flipper not fitting right now. It will definitely fit better once the swelling goes down and I think it can be adjusted anyway.

dental implant/flipper
I have a dental implant on my front tooth, well the screw is in place, the temporary is uncomfortable It doesn't fit right and it causes me some stress. I am anxiously awaiting the permanent.

It really depends on the type of implant you get. I worked as a dental assistant before i had kids. Some patients do get their teeth pulled and the implants placed same day and other waiting until fully healed. They really aren't that bad. They numb you as much as possible so you wont feel anything but some pressure. Anterior teeth (front teeth) you might be able to do a mini implant, much less invasive, we had just started doing them when i left. I'm getting 3 done next year because i had 3 congenitally missing (never developed or erupted) molars. Temporaries are really uncomfortable most of the time but the permanent is completely accustomed to your mouth in every aspect and they will make sure it fits the way it should before you leave. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me. On a front tooth i would definitely recommend getting the impant done for function and cosmetic purposes. I have a flipper right now for both my upper first premolars, i lost one with each pregnancy due to spontaneous root fracture (another pregnancy awesome side effect) so im awaiting mini implants for those too, i can't wait because i absolutely hate my flipper and it makes me talk with a lisp when i wear it.

I just had 6 implants put in on Monday. It was not fun but not that bad. It takes a lot to make me numb and I actually felt them pulling out one tooth... Needless to say they stuck me a few more times.. I opted to have the implants put in the same day. I never would have gone back. I wanted the mini implants but it wasn't right for me. I need a lot of work. I am now healing with a mouthful of stitches.. I can't wait for all of this to be over.. I also had issues with my teeth from early on. I have 2 permanent teeth that are still up in my gum. They pulled a baby tooth this past visit. Bad genes...
