Phone scam beware!
I got a phone call from 516-899-8999 yesterday and an Indian man was asking about my Microsoft office application and saying something about how my computer was sending warning signals.
I was in the middle of doing something and distracted and got confused bc I recently purchased Microsoft office for my Mac. But accidentally bought the one for a PC and installed it before I realized. Had to uninstall and return for the proper one.
So because I really had a Microsoft issue he threw me for a loop. He wanted me to type in my browser www.helpme1.com or something like that. Instantly I became weary and was like no I am not doing this. GIve me a number to call back and verify your company and surprise surprise he gave me a number that was disconnected. I googled his number and saw it was a scam.
So here is my warning! I am usually pretty smart about things like this but bc I had an issue I was thrown off.

Phone scam beware!
This has been going on for about a year, they were mainly targeting elderly people in the beginning. I just say I don't have a computer, lol, and then they hang up.

My mom got a call like that. She does not have a computer in the house, which she told him, and he kept insisting there was something wrong with it.

Yeah my aunt will talk to these people who call her for awhile without missing a beat then when they ask for her credit card or mailing address she'll finally think or pretend to think .. but if they say enter in an http anything she laughs and says...
I'm a 73yr old fat Mexican woman with no computer!
She sounds like she's 30 I SWEAR! She has the perfect phone voice. But they never believe her then she gets offended and hangs up. I finally had to put her on the do-not-call-list myself!

the secretary in my other office just called me to tell me that they called our office!! i didnt get a chance to listen to her entire story, but i really HOPE she didnt fall for it

I posted about this a few months ago too. The man kept calling me and then actually called me stupid for not believing him. I ended up telling him I was having the call traced w the police and he stopped calling. I sort of believed it in the beginning but didn't like how he wanted to access my computer or tell me which one it was.

I have so much fun playing with callers like these. Taught DH to do the same.
So much better than getting annoyed/upset.

I ask them if that is why I have porn pop ups on my computer, from the virus. Sometimes they will agree - and then I go into graphic detail about the pop ups. Then when they ask me to go onto the website, my computer keeps crashing, and they patiently wait the 10-15 minutes for it to boot up again. And then, gosh darn it - it crashes again. I keep doing that one and they just sigh and wait for it to boot up. Damn virus!!!

I got a call about this too several months ago, however, I don't think the person that called sounded like an indian. I let him talk for a while, thanked him for calling then I said I don't own a computer. He mumbled something and hung up.

Just got this call the other day too. I don't own a PC plus I heard of this scam. I was so bluntly rude to the guy, he ended up hanging up on ME!!

This happened to us. It was an Indian accent. My DH told them we have a MAC computer (we don't) but just to throw him one, he hung up on us

this has been going on for years. i'm a security engineer/hacker so ive been waiting for them to call me! they finally did and once i told them what i do he hung up and never called back.
they called my mom once and she said...my daughters a hacker! i know what you're trying to do!! LOL they hung up on her. that was a proud daughter moment!
