Fixing sheetrock walls
I'm trying to get DS's room going. I've removed everything from the walls from when DDs were in it. Here's the problem: when I removed the picture frame molding that we had up around the room, it pulled off some of the sheetrock. Looks like the paper backing and a bit of the "rock" itself (it seems like the contractor put it up with liquid nails or something to be sure it would stay flush with the walls all the way around). So can I just use spackle to fix the areas that are messed up? I don't need to hang new sheetrock, do I?

Spackle is fine for fixing small holes. If the hole is 1-2 inches or so, you can put mesh tape over the hole and spackle that. Bigger than 2 inches or so, you have to start using pieces of drywall (not an entire 4'x8' sheet) to fill in the holes.

Spackle is fine for fixing small holes. If the hole is 1-2 inches or so, you can put mesh tape over the hole and spackle that. Bigger than 2 inches or so, you have to start using pieces of drywall (not an entire 4'x8' sheet) to fill in the holes.
Exactly this, though we have taped holes up to 5 inches with no issues.

Thanks. There are no actual "holes" so to speak, its more just areas where the paper from the sheetrock got ripped off.

This happened to our living room. We ended up having to essentially spackle all the walls.... It's OK, but was not worth the work it took - took us over a week on our own because you have to sand then spackle then sand and spackle again. We would have been better off just resheetrocking. It really depends on the size of the spaces this happened to.

Just a thin coat of spackle is fine for spots like that as well. It takes a *lot* of damage to need to replace an entire sheet of drywall.
