Sucking on the sippy

DD is 16 months. She will hold the sippy cup and play with it and shake it, will even put the straw in her mouth but won't suck on it. Any suggestions what I can do? I give it to her each night st dinner so she gets familiar with it but she just won't suck it.

Is it hard to suck from. Some of them are. Maybe try filling a straw with water so she sees water comes out of it?

Sucking on the sippy

When I couldn't get DS to use a straw cup I tried them and it was hard to suck because they all have the valves so they wont spill. We switched to the take and toss straw cups... He loved them. Just need to watch for spills.

We had this problem too. It is very hard to suck through the sippy cups...

We switched to regular cups just after a year (maybe 13 or 14 months).

At 16 months, both kids were drinking very well from regular cups (and it made it very easy to give them a drink on the go).

Yes, there is a little mess in the beginning... but it really wasn't bad.

Theres a playtex straw trainer cup that is easy and the parent squeezes it for it to come up so they realize theres something in there. It does leak like crazy b/c its so easy to suck on.

when dd 1 was little I couldn't find that cup anywhere. What I did was use a regular straw, held on end of it and put it her mouth. I dripped a little out at a time and eventually I didn't and she learned to suck the straw.

I'd try giving the sippy between meals, when she might be thirsty. DS has his sippy in his reach all day so he can drink whenever he's thirsty.

My 7 month old is using the Zoli sippy cup. She's able to suck it very easily. I've tried a few others and she hadn't had any idea what to do. I know she's little but these work well

Sucking on the sippy

I found the playtex brand to be easier for DD than some of the other ones.
