If your baby has/had reflux
Did you put medicine in their bottle or give the medicine separate? If you have it separate - how did you administer it? I tried putting into DD mouth but she wasn't swallowing and cringed so most came dribbling back out. When I put it in her bottle and she spits up a lot im afraid shes spitting it out that way
Also with the Enfamil AR - so you have to get bigger nipples for bottle? She is able to suck it out but I notice that when she sucks it makes air bubbles inside the bottle. They are Medela bottles but I want to switch to Dr Browns. and is the RTF any easier than the powder? I am using the powder but it seems clumpy no matter how hard I shake to mix. I want to get the RTF but don't know if it works as good since it seems thinner.

into the bottle! always, but, she took full bottles. if your LO doesn't finish bottles, that's not an option.

she always finishes so that's not a problem - I just worry because she spits up so much after I don't know how much of the medicine shes actually getting

If your baby has/had reflux
I put the med right into his mouth. I had the syringe type dispenser (usually comes with tylenol) and put it in his mouth toward the cheek. At first he didnt like it, now, he expects it and likes it!!! First thing in the morning he looks for it, and if i forget to give it right away he wonders where it is. As for the AR, i always used the powder and shook the bottle three times before getting the clumps out. Id let it sit with one does of gas drops inside to get the bubbles out. DS is now 8 months, he is still on zantac, but is off the AR and off the gas drops. Im going to try to wean the meds starting next week. Good luck!!!

If your baby has/had reflux
The dr and gastro told me that reflux meds are most effective when given 20-30 minutes prior to a feeding on an empty stomach. I would give to dd in a syringe first thing in the morning. We would then change her diaper, and do a few other things before preparing and sitting down with her bottle

Re: If your baby has/had reflux
I was BFing so I gave the medicine before nursing. I put the syringe towards the back of the mouth which makes it less likely to spit it out.

Re: If your baby has/had reflux
DS was prescribed Zantac and it wasn't working. He was then put on Axcid and it worked. I used the syringe to administer the Axcid in towards his cheek and he'd take it that way. He was on Enfamil Gentle ease and that formula worked best for him. To get the clumps out, I would put the formula into a bowl and beat it with a small hand held beater. Good luck. :)

Re: If your baby has/had reflux
I used the syringe dispenser in his cheek & then blew in his face to make him swallow. After a little while he got used to it & would give me no problem taking his meds.

that's what we did but my son wouldn't always finish the bottle so we'd do 2 bottles. 1- 4 ounce bottle with the medicine and 1 ounce of formula and then when that was finished, give a regular bottle.

Re: If your baby has/had reflux
I was told to give it before feeding to be most effective. I gave it in a syringe and just placed it in the back of her mouth and shot it in. It was too far back for her to spit it out that way. She got used to it after a while and would just suck it out of the syringe.
She was EBF and refused bottles so that wouldn't have been an option anyway.

If your baby has/had reflux
We had to give it 20-30 minutes before feeding. And make sure you get it FLAVORED! It changed our life. It was a huge struggle and then we asked for flavor and he gulped it down like candy.

Re: If your baby has/had reflux
We put the meds right into DD's mouth and she take it no problem now, took a few days to get her used to it. We use the RTF AR, its the only formula that worked for DD. Never changed the nipple bc of the formula, just when she got bigger and the flow was too slow for her. I think the first time we went up a size she was about 2 months. She is 7 months now and is on a level 3 nipple.
