Happy thought about being a manager

Most times I can't stand being a manager of people, it feels like I'm a mom to an additonal 15 people, a therapist, and a dart board.....

but today I hired someone who has a small child. She was nervous because she knew that her child was starting school in August and needed time in the mornings and wasn't sure about flexibility and such.

We spent time talking about flexibility and NOT missing important milestones like her child's first day of school ever, and how she could flex time and how I have kids I completely get it. I could just hear the sigh of relief and she started to cry and told me how greatful she was and she's never worked for another working mom before and she will be do eveyrthing she needs to to make sure she meets every expectation.....and I KNOW that she will.

sometimes its just about understanding.

That is great to hear.

Having been a manager before, I'm used to the opposite experience where people play the mom card to take advantage.

I just want to say I think that is amazing and you are awesome for being so understanding. As a working mother with a working mother as a boss, I just want to say, not all working mother bosses are quite so understanding.

If only there were more managers out there like you, who understand the importance of work / life balance.
