I personally don't see anything wrong with selling duplicate gifts without receipt. They were given to her daughter and they are to do with them as they please! This has happened to me a few times and I sold the duplicates and put the profit into my daughter's account or bought her something she really wanted.

However, the fast that she is selling them on FB where people who gave her those things can see that their gifts were duplicates IS pretty tacky. The one thing I was taught at an early age is that you always make sure to show the person who gave you a gift that it is very much appreciated! Seeing your gifts sold on FB certainly doesn't make you feel appreciated...

This. When we received duplicate gifts we either exchanged them (if it was an option) or regifted them (because in most cases they were great gifts which is why we got more than one). But, facebook is so public that I think its a bit awkward to sell your gifts when the giftgiver can so easily see.

Her comment bothers me a whole lot more than her selling the gifts, especially the "ugh." She sounds like an ungrateful witch and the comment and the attitude that goes along with it would make me think less of her.

And that kid will forever get a gift card from my kid as a gift. No way I am spending any time picking out a gift for anyone in that family.

I also think it's tacky to "sell" these gifts on Facebook. I think we've all received duplicate gifts, but re-selling like that is just rude. I think it would be more appropriate to re-gift or sell in a private group.

I don't think there is a problem with returning duplicate gifts, or I guess even selling them if she can't return them. I do think there is a problem with selling them in such a way that the gift-giver can see that it's being sold, and then her subsequent comment complaining about it.

Disgusted/Shocked/WTF!?!?

Returning an item for credit/refund? Fine.

Reselling at a higher than retail rate and profiting? Not fine.

Reselling at a higher than retail rate on FB a couple days after a party? Definitely not fine.

Reselling on FB at retail because it's not returnable etc? Fine.

I can't say the thought of giving a duplicate gift back to the gift giver has ever crossed my mind. That is a little silly!

I've seen my hand me downs up for sale on FB. I have them to you because you needed them, not to sell and profit off of them. People do all kinds of the things on FB.

tacky yes, maybe she figures people will all give gift receipts next time if she makes a public tantrum.... would have been eaiser to either donate them or quietly regift....

But I would't message her saying its tacky, cause then she'll complain its none of your business.

You never know. My daughter went to a party not long ago. Mother told me she loved Legos. So I got her a lego set (yes I gave her a gift receipt). My daughter said the next day that the child told her that her mom said she had too many Legos and was going to throw them in the garbage. Chat Icon Return, exchange, put away for a later date. But throw away?

I couldn't imagine selling a gift, never mind publicly selling it on FB where most likely one of her party guests would have seen it.

That's ballsy! At least sell it on eBay or return to the store. Fb? Seriously? What an embarrassment

This is how I see it, and it's just plain rude because she's FB friends with the people who gifted her these items.

LOL sorry but I read this and thought, yeah I'd say that to my daughter.. "You have too much of this ____ I'm going to trash it" but I never actually WOULD. Donate maybe but never toss it out, just because. My daughter likes Legos too but my god she wants each and every very last lego out before she plays and its INSANE! I specifically don't mention her love of legos because god knows I don't need any more!
