Might be too late but I wrote DD's teacher a hand written note and then that night emailed the principal and superintendent. The principal responded and asked if he could forward my email to the teacher so she could read my kind words. So you could Cc them or do a separate but similar email to the principal.

Absolutely!! I did.........and the superintendent and principal actually responded back. They asked if I was ok having my letter go in her personnel file and thanked me profusely for recognizing her efforts and hard work.
