How old was LO when diagnosed w autism
DS was 26 months. Developmental pediatrician diagnosed, EI did not agree but psychologist understood and could see why. She wasn't ready to label him that young. But we did receive additional services.
Personally I always knew there was a problem. But he is doing wonderfully in DDI and I try not to get to wrapped up in the diagnosis (or lack thereof). We are currently transitioning to the school district and he will most likely be receiving additional services.

How old was LO when diagnosed w autism
My old pediatrician told me that to call EI at 15 to get a eval. EI told me he did not qualify at the time, but at 2 years old he would. Waited till he was two and he is was mild to severe asd. From what they told me it is very hard to diagnose when they are young because there are not many goals expected for them to reach. As a parent you know when something's wrong. People would tell me " he a baby there is nothing wrong" " just give him time". If you think something is wrong push to get the testing done and do it as many time as you want.

Re: How old was LO when diagnosed w autism
PDD-NOS at 15 months (too young to administer the Ados test but I knew) and 3 months later, official diagnosis via new psychological eval. As far as others mentioned, I knew something was up at 10 months but was listening to everyone else's opinion, pediatrician said 'lets wait and see'.. and finally I said screw this and made an appt. Between wait time to meet and eval scheduling, didn't get a diagnosis for a month and a half.
I understand you hearing conflicting information- several DOCTORS told me he was too young to be diagnosed (by an EI psych) at 18 months. People though I was crazy going to EI with a 13 month old. You say red flags? Go with your gut. I'm so happy I went so early, even though everyone in the world told me I was out of my mind, and other people told me to wait until 2 years. There was a rule (that they don't have anymore) that if you got an eval with no diagnosis, you couldn't have another eval for 6 months or a year or something. But this was recent, intitial contact with EI in Spring of last year, I think something with the 2 year old rule had changed? I'm not sure. At the end of the day, don't listen to anyone else who thinks they know better (I did for so long "Kids develop at different rates" "He's perfect, you're being paranoid") and just make the EI appointment if you think something is up. Do NOT depend on your pediatrician to catch it. The worst case scenario is: you waste some time with appointments and evaluation and get some peace of mind if nothing is up. But the earlier the better- DS has made incredible leaps and bounds, and is doing amazing. So much so that his therapists think he will end up in a 'typical' kindegarten. GOOD LUCK!
