What is your K or 1st grader reading?
DS is going into first grade. He likes the fly guy books, but I think they are a little too easy for him. He recently got into henry and mudge. He doesn't love cam jansen. Any suggestions for other books/series?

DS is also going into 1st. He loves the Mo Willems books. All the Piggie & Gerald ones and Knuffle Bunny, etc. He has some Spongebob books that he loves, Eye Spy, and some of the Richard Scarry books.

My son is going into second but all year we have been reading magic tree house series. I would totally recommend. I even like them!
ETA: another chapter series he likes is My Weird School

In a Dark Dark Dark Room - has several scary stories, my kid is weird
How do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight
Buzz Said the Bee
I also add in leveled reading books in for him to practice his sight words.
Do you DC's read these books on their own or need some help?

The above books ds can read on his own (with me there or he just looks at pics). Most of the books like how do dinosaurs and the mo willems books are easy for him at this point and they were books we read since he was a baby so a lot of them he knows by heart or doesn't want to read because he attributes them to baby books. The chapter books like my weird school and magic tree house are too long for him and he gets turned off because it doesn't have as many pics to look at.

Did you try Magic School Bus? My son is going into second grade but he read those books last year. They have more pictures than Magic Tree House (which he also enjoyed reading in 1st grade but liked better towards end of 1st grade).
Alpha Oops - my kids love that book.
Not sure if he likes Dinosaurs and sports but my son loved Dino-Baseball, Dino-Soccer, etc. by Lisa Wheeler. He use to take them out of the school library.
Froggy Books? I think it is Jonothon London or something like that. They look young but are not as easy as Piggie Books (which my son found easy at that age but still loved to read anyway).
Going into 1st grade he rad a lot of Henry and Mudge the summer before. He laughed because he is going into 2nd grade and he got a Henry and Mudge book as his summer assigned reading book. How about Danny the Dinosaur or Sammy the seal books...they are similar and also on the assigned reading list my 2nd grader got.

Thanks I was just curious, since I'm never sure if DS is on track with reading. He was a late reader compared to others.
My DS is also like that with the longer books with less pictures, although I don't think he is as strong of a reader as your DS. However, with my son he has a great memory, so after we read a book together once he is just saying it by memory afterwards rather than reading the words. The longer book with less pictures are harder for him to memorize, lol.

Another vote for Magic Tree House- my DD loves them.
Also look at the leveled readers- there are so many topics and characters he's bound to find something he likes.

Thanks for recommending the Magic Tree House series. We just bought a few books for DS this week and he loves it so far. He's reading the book most mornings and evenings and asks to take it with him to daycare too.

If he's reading magic tree house, try bailey school kids (they have a junior edition, too), polk street school series, horrible harry, and the black lagoon series.
In a few months, he might like My Weird School and Geronimo Stilton.
