Movie party for 1st grader.....question? ETA update
I'm thinking of doing a movie party, and adults aren't included. Is it rude to ask parents to pay for their tickets if they want to stay? Would you drop your 6 year old off at the movies for a party? They have a party room for after, so parents can come after the movie.
I know most of the moms, but some of the kids I don't know because she just became friends with them this year.
ETA. We decided to do something different. Too much to think about with this. DD is ok with it.

Re: Movie party for 1st grader.....question?
I wouldn't drop my 6 year old at the movies alone. It's dark and I would worry if he had to use the bathroom or something. I would happily pay for my own ticket but like anything else some people will think its rude.

If my child were invited to this party I would expect to pay for my own ticket.

This. I would absolutely not leave my 6 year old at this party alone.. And, will also say having been to a number of first grade parties this year, most parents do not leave their children alone. At a minimum, maybe a friend's mom watches the child. But, maybe your area is different. I would gladly pay for my own ticket and have no problem with it as long as I was not meant to feel unwelcome.

I wouldn't do a drop off and to be honest would be surprised and slightly annoyed at having to pay for a ticket. I think, just IMHO, that parties shouldn't have a 'cost' associated with them.

Movie party for 1st grader.....question?
We went to a movie party and the parents were included (at least we weren't asked to pay to stay for the movie). The kids got snacks at the movie and the parents just got entrance to the movie. I would not be comfortable leaving my 6 y/o there alone.

I wouldn't drop off at the movies. And I also wouldn't expect to pay to stay. I would find it rude. Do they offer a discount if you buy the adult tickets?

It's a $10 kid minimum, at $20 a kid. And adults are $10. So.it would be at least another $100.

If you don't want to pay for the parents (I don't blame you), I'd save this kind of party for when your DC is older and more likely for parents to be more comfortable with dropping off.

I agree. I wouldn't be comfy leaving my 6 yr old at a movie theater without me and would expect the adult would be included. Mind you, I'd pay if asked to but would find it strange.

Totally rude to tell parents their not included and to pay if they wanted to stay. At 6 I wouldn't leave DC so if this happened to me I would pay and then talk about this to everyone I know.
If you want to do this let parents know this ahead of time so they don't just show up and unexpectedly HAVE to pay because 6 is just way too young.

If you're only inviting 10 kids I'm assuming you're friendly with the moms? Maybe you can explain that it's drop off and that you will have enough adults there to help with potty breaks. If one or two adults that I know well would be there to supervise, I would be more likely to drop off.

This! I have been to movie theater parties and the parent is always included.

Re: Movie party for 1st grader.....question?
the theater by me has adults free.
I probably wouldn't have felt comfortable dropping my 6 year old off at a movie theater for a few reasons:
How big is the theater? Are there other movies?
He's the kid that you need to keep an eye on.
You have both boys & girls at the theater. How many adults are available in the event that someone (& they all probably will at one point) needs to go to the bathroom?

Which theater is it that has free adults.
It's Island 16, it's pretty big.
I'm going to have to do something different. Thanks for all the feedback.

I know 5 out of 9 of the moms. Have done a bunch of play dates with them, and they know each other.

I think if you told me about this ahead of time I could maybe arrange for one mom to take two kids, that way you can cut the adults in half. But in fairness, you'll probably end up with 4-6 adults regardless. At that point, what's the difference. I would either pay for everyone or just hold off until the kids are older. Sorry, I know that's not what you were hoping to hear, but that's my opinion.

This is what DD wanted. But we also wanted to cut down the birthday party expense. Going this route will cost us the same as what we've done in the past, for less kids.

Re: Movie party for 1st grader.....question?
I would have zero issue paying for the movie for myself. Our Daisy Troop had a party at the movies, I wasn't going to leave her there, so I had to pay for my own ticket. Wasn't a big deal at all.
Another idea, not exactly the same thing, is to have an at home movie party. I did this for my son one year. It turned out awesome. I set up the chairs in rows, with a red carpet runner in the middle. We showed a relatively new movie. I had a snack bar set up on my kitchen island with popcorn, boxed candies and drinks in the paper cups with the lids. The kids all really enjoyed it.

Ok, I thought of one more suggestion that "may" work. What if you had the kids dropped off at your house. Then you and DH could take the girls to the movies and then have them picked up either at the theater or your home afterwards. Plus I do like the idea of a home movie party. And maybe even with a pajama theme. Have the girls come in their pajamas, feed them pizza first, then set up lots of blankets and pillows on the floor, movie popcorn/snacks and finish up with ice cream sundaes.

I think I would be less likely to let DD in someone's car who I don't know, KWIM?
We don't want something at the house. We're too OCD. Good idea though.

Movie party for 1st grader.....question?
I wouldn't want my child to be driven around by someone I barely know to be honest. So I don't think that idea would work.
There are cheaper cinemas. Port Jeff Cinema does a party and it's cheap. Like $7.50 a person or something like that, with popcorn and soda. Parents would be charged $5.50 (matinee price). No party room though, but there is a frozen yogurt place next door. ETA, it's -$5.50 per ticket, $2.50 for small popcorn & small soda. 10 person minimum.
