True Blood BOOK readers... spoil me now?

***********SPOILERS BELOW**********

Now that the series is over, I wanted to know what the differences were between show and book. Does she kill Bill (Chat Icon) in the book? I always wanted her to wind up with Eric.

Re: True Blood BOOK readers... spoil me now?

SPOILERS!!!!!!!!

The hbo series took liberties from the beginning but completely went beyond anything resembling the books in starting in season 3 and it just deviated more and more after that. When Eric had amnesia, the book was much steamier and better. Marianne had a smaller part. Tara was white. Arlene is a human-supremacist. Lafayette dies early in the series. The stuff w the witches was different and better. The fairy grandfather and other fae relatives were much different. No Jessica and many other characters and story lines. And so much more! Read the books. I promise the show didn't give anything away.
She doesn't end up w either vampire. Neither bill or Eric die. She ends up w Sam.

True Blood BOOK readers... spoil me now?

The books were GREAT! Definitely read them! I was so happy that she ended up with Sam (I may be the minority here but I hated Bill).

True Blood BOOK readers... spoil me now?

The books were awesome and the series had basically nothing to do with the books except for using the same names. They could have had a homerun if they went with the books.

I was extremely disappointed with then ending of the series of the books. Eric looked like a jerk. Harris totally destroyed his character that I loved. The tv show was nothing like the books. I stopped watching True Blood two years ago and I think the books should have ended around book 8 or 9.

True Blood BOOK readers... spoil me now?

I wanted to see Quinn in the show soooooo bad. Books were way better IMO but I liked baby vamp Jess on the show. Books were really good when Eric wasn't a **** like dirty steamy, and I liked Alcides story better too. I hated the show when the Maynard story took up a whole damn season for no reason but I stuck throu it all

And Andy doesn't have any fairy babes.

Terry is a Viet Nam vet, not an Afghanistan vet.

Tara is so different. She is not related to Lafayette & doesn't work at Merlotte's. She owns a clothing store. When the show starts, Sookie is kind of lonely & doesn't really have friends. At the end of the first book, she tries to be normal & goes to a HS football game & meets up with Tara & Eggs who she used to be friends with & they re-kindle their friendship.

Jason's storyline with the were panthers is different too.

I don't even remember--was Sookie's cousin Hadley even mentioned in the TV show?

The overall tone of the books is different.
Its much more cutesy-hokey small town
(although there is at least one fairly detailed sex scene in each book.) There is much more focus on Sookie's telepathy & trying to find her place between the human & supernatural worlds.

Jason & Pam's personalities were similar to their book characters, but Jason's storyline was different--he is not a cop in the books.

Bill is pretty close too, but yes, for the most part, they just have the same names. Chat Icon

Re: True Blood BOOK readers... spoil me now?

Holy cow. That is a LOT different!

Some of it sounds even more outlandish than the show (and I didn't think that was possible) Chat Icon

Thank you for holding on to those spoilers for so long. I'm glad I didn't know any of this before.

Jason also never went to Bible camp or whatever the hell that was, never banged reverend Newlin's wife- or even met the Newlins for that matter, and DID turn into a werepanther. Crystal (who was very similar in the book- being an inbred, white trash, werepanther) wound up getting pregnant with Jason's baby but was CRUCIFIED in the Merlotte's parking lot. Everyone thought it was because the shifters came out and she was known to be a werepanther, but I think it turned out to be Sookie's fairy relatives causing trouble again! I liked Sookie's fairy family better in the books- they were weird- Claude and Claudine were in the books, but they were good, kinda. Claudine was her fairy godmother and actually gave her life (while pregnant with twins) to save Sookie's. Claude owns a gay strip club and occassionally stripped as well. He was kind of a ****, but took care of Sookie. Alcide's story was different- he got involved with Sookie in a similar manner- as a favor to Eric, but he tries to sneakily get Sookie to help his father (who was competing to become packmaster) by using her telepathy and boy was she pissed. Alcide's father died while trying to become packmaster and Alcide became packmaster and turned out to be kind of a ****. I always laugh about Russell Edgington's character in the show vs. the book- the show he was a complete maniac. In the book he was kinda nice and southern gentlemanly- plus he liked Sookie and kinda helped her out. Same thing with Queen Sophie Ann and Sookie's cousin Hadley. I think that's where they really took a turn from the books, which is a shame because I loved the stories. Oh and Lafayette's story didn't exist because he was a peripheral character and in the season 2 opener when they open the car and she a black person's foot with red painted toe nails and Tara thought it was Lafayette? Well, it was! In the books anyway. So he didn't last long. And the worst part was they effed up my favorite book- the 4th one- where Eric loses his memory and hides out at Sookie's place. That's the beginning of their very convoluted relationship and the show made it SO cheesy. OH! And how could I forget Arlene?! She never married Terry- she started dating some biblethumper and turned on Sookie- she actually lured Sookie to her house where hey boyfriend and friend were going to crucify her- this is the same book where Crystal was crucified. Lots of crucifixtions going on in that one!

I really agree that the show would've done better if they stuck to the books more- it had a following for a reason. Besides, Charlaine Harris, the author, was very good at not contradicting herself and tieing her stories up in a neat little bow by the end. The show seemed like they'd start a hundred story lines and then just pick whichever one anyone hated the least and ran with it- and if halfway through the season everyone started to hate that story? Well, just change it again! Chat Icon This makes me want to re-read the books for the upteenth time!

I know you're not alone- so many people were pissed! But, the more I thought about it, the more sense it made. Sookie was thoroughly human and she wanted the human life- a man to grow old with, kids to love, etc. Eric could've never given her that.

I could have handled her with Sam and not Eric BUT I feel the last few books were not the Eric I grew to love. She destroyed his humor, loyalty, and ability to have control (which was sexy). Sookie became annoying. I wish she would have ended it better between them without destroying Eric.

On a side note....Bubba was one of my favorite characters and I hate how he wasn't on the TV show.
