Dormering Question
How long were you out of your house for? We are putting on a full dormer and opening walls on the first floor. Also, what did you do with all of your "stuff"? If you rented a POD, which company do you recommend. The overwhelming, OMG this is going to be CHAOS, combined with a contractor that is a bit sketchy on answers right now, is leaving me full out panic attack.

Re: Dormering Question
We never left. We had one bedroom that was not beig touched so we slept there. It was tax season so I was working a lot. My son would be at my moms all day and we would eat there but come home to sleep. It was three months for everything to be done. We did put our stuff in a pod like storage but we did use POD. I can't remember which compmay we used. It was 8 years ago when we did the work.
Good luck to you!

Dormering Question
kind of unrelated, but if either of you could send me FM with an estimated cost for doing a dormer that would be fantastic- my husband and i are in the early stages of thinking about it

Dormering Question
we looked into it and all 3 contractors we spoke with said we could live in the house the entire time. We were only going to do the 2nd floor, nothing on the first.
@cets1290 - we were quoted between $130-160k, depending on the contractor. The highest price was a modular contractor (which would mean only 1-2 weeks of construction in the actual house). Oh, this was for a Levitt cape (fairly small house)

Re: Dormering Question
Just when you get quotes keep in mind the "extras", like $1K for the permit for the town, $150 per new bathroom, make sure everything else is up to code. Also make sure to ask questions like "Is my siding still made, or do I have to reside the whole house?", "Is the tile in the bathroom just the floor or 1/2 the wall?" It's been a daunting start for us (signed paperwork in May, construction still not started). Hopefully the rest will go smooth.
