After School for Kindergarten age kids
Hi, My family and I recently moved to LI from the city. We are slowly trying to find our way in the suburbs. In the past, after school usually meant the boys playing in the park or playground with their friends for a few hours. In my district, everyone gets bussed, so he gets dropped off at home. We have signed up for sports, but that seems to be weekend activity. So what does everyone do? Are there any afterschool activities that you would recommend
Thanks!

Re: After School for Kindergarten age kids
Personally, we plan to lay low during the week.
DH and I both work FT and often don't get home till 6pm on an early day.
DS just started K and honestly, he is exhausted.
When the homework starts too, I can't imagine having an activity added.
When he's older though, I do envision him being in sports, but he will also be more independent then and can start that without our presence all the time.
This year his grandparents pick him up but next year I might add SCOPE for continued structure.

Re: After School for Kindergarten age kids
We do aftercare at the school. Both my DH and I work FT so we pick him up at like 5:30. It gives him about 2 hours to do his HW but mostly he just plays and hangs out with tht other kids. That is what I love most about it bc if I picked him up, it we would probably hang low as well and not really see anyone.

After School for Kindergarten age kids
Our local rec center has activities after school that DD will do one day a week and we often go to the park. I don't like to over schedule us.

Same! He loves aftercare. What makes it even more wonderful is the new "best buddy" he made is in aftercare too!

Re: After School for Kindergarten age kids
I sometimes wish we had a bus drop off so we could have more quiet time after school.
Mondays, my in-laws would sometimes do school pick up and take him to their house for a few hours. Tues/Thurs they're with a sitter, Weds/Fri we have soccer practice - I miss the downtime =(

We are looking into signing DS up for karate 1-2 nights during the week but other than that we lay low too. In the spring we'll sign up for tee ball which will be 1 practice/game during the week and 1 game on saturdays.

DH and I both work F/T so DS gets bused to a local aftercare from his school. So far, he loves it! He plays on the playground and indoors with his friends, we do homework at home after I pick him up.
