Tanning question

I know this is bad considering going tanning but I want to maintain my summer tan for an upcoming vacation in the DR in 10 weeks. Do you think going once a week every 2 weeks until we leave would be ok?

We've done the DR prior without a tan & I suffered big time with sunburn

Re: Tanning question

Tanning = skin cancer. It really is that simple. There is nothing wrong with being pale, but if you want color I would use self-tanner. Chat Icon

ETA: if you burned badly your sunscreen either wasn't strong enough or you didn't reapply often enough.

Agreed. Also, tanning is terrible for your skin. You'll look old before your time. If you really need to be bronze, go the air brush tanning route. Otherwise, embrace the pale!

Re: Tanning question

Get a spray tan. I have a great woman that comes to your house. Looks BETTER than a real tan.
Tanning salons should be banned IMO

I am very pale so when I need some color on my legs etc I use moisturizer with a tint. It darkens over a few days, doesn't smell too bad and keep your skin soft.

I never used a tanning salon

The spray tan is only make up though right & provides no sunscreen protection like a regular tan?

a regular tan is not sunscreen protection. It means you damaged your skin. As nice as it looks, get a spray tan. I've done airbrushing and even the regular mystic tan booths with great results. It's a myth that a regular tan will give you protection. Even dark skinned women need spf. I use Jergens natural glow for face and the one for body and get so many compliments.

I know a reg tan is not sunscreen protection in itself. Just wondering how the spray tan would truly work once I'm in DR in the sun

A regular tan provides ABSOLUTELY NO protection -- I'm not quite sure where you heard this or why anyone would think this is true. Whether you tan naturally in the sun, in a tanning bad, with a spray on airbrush, or a self-tanning product, you should always use sunscreen with a decently high SPF. As previous posters have suggested, I would recommend getting a spray tan before you go to DR and NOT go to a tanning salon. I work summers in a dermatologist office and the number of people coming in and getting diagnosed with the various types of skin cancer is alarming. As nice as a golden tan looks, I'd rather be pale than have pock marks on my face and body, which is exactly what it looks like when they have to remove cancer patches.

You'd have to wear sunscreen like you would without the spray or regular tan.

Exactly this. It's not make up though- it doesn't wash off... it wears off over time as your skin exfoliates...just like a real tan.
I wear the same SPF if I am spray tanned or pale as a ghost.
A tan doesn't offer any sunburn protection- that's a huge fallacy. You will burn right through a tan...you may just not see it or notice it as much

I wish I knew then what I know now regarding "tanning." Chat Icon

As others have stated, it's not worth it. Save your skin (and your future looks) by using a self tanner or a spray tan and plenty of sunscreen on your vacation.

If you have the time to "build up" a tan at the salon, then you have time to experiment with a spray tan to see if you're happy with it.

Sorry it's not what you want to read or hear, but I'm paying the price of tanning beds with cataracts and skin damage.

I agree with everyone else. There is no safe amount of tanning. Spray tan all the way!

If you want the name of my girl she is excellent- FM me.
She has a shop but will come to your house.
She's fast too- in and out in like 15 min.
I loved how natural it looked
