Let's talk bottles

DH is adamant about no plastic in the beginning so we are going with the evenflo glass bottles in the beginning (I think he's being a little silly since everything is BPA free these days).

I was told to avoid registering for dr. brown because they are PITA to clean. I'm not sure what we will go with yet but I like the idea of the playtex drop ins.

I just registered for a bunch of singles in different brands. I was told that you can go through a bunch of different brands before you find the one that baby likes, so I figured I'll worry about later.

Re: Let's talk bottles

Don't register for too many. Pick good bottles for colicky babies just in case.
I also heard Dr Browns are a PIA to clean so ii stayed away for DS.
For DS I used Avent.
For baby 2 I am getting Playtex drop ins- no bottle cleaning!!

I used these for DD1 and I'll use them again for my 2nd. So incredibly easy to clean, to warm, and DD1 did great with them.

Let's talk bottles

We did trial and error. Started off with Tommy Tippee but the milk would just dribble out of her mouth. Then we went to Playtex Drop ins but it was annoying and a bit pricy to keep buying the drop ins. We finally settled on Playtex Vent Aires.

Hated Dr. Brown's when I worked in daycare.

I tried going by reviews on amazon and BRU. It's helpful but you'll quickly see that people have very different experiences with each brand. I'd just say register for just a few and maybe two different brands. Once you find a brand you like you can always get more. After no luck with avent I switched to tommy tippee and stuck with those. We also never did different sized bottles, just got the 9oz from the start.

Re: Let's talk bottles

Dr. Browns are great if you have a colicky baby. but yeah..they're a PITA.

When my son was a baby I used the NUK bottles. 2 pieces! i loved them. they also have the same nipple in the pacifiers so there was no confusion. Also NUK is known to be good for teeth and speech development. i dont know if thats just a marketing ploy but my son was speaking full sentences at 18 months and used a pacifier until he was 3.5 and no teeth problems. Chat Icon i plan to use them again.

I registered for 2 single glass avent bottles. If DD likes them, I will get more.

Let's talk bottles

Don't register for too many bottles. Chances are, baby will be fine with whatever you choose, but if not, you don't want to have a million bottles! We got Playtex drop ins for DS1 and he didn't take to them right away. We tried another bottle (maybe two?!) and another set of nipples. He also was tongue tied and needed his tongue clipped. Between the tongue clipping and and changing nipples, we stayed with drop ins. They're so convenient and Target makes drop ins in their own brand that are MUCH cheaper than playtex!

Re: Let's talk bottles

All I have to say is Dr. Brown's were not our favorite choice at all. We had Avent which were better and Evenflo glass bottles which I loved the most. I will be getting more of those for DD when she is born.

I registered for avent naturals. At first she wouldn't drink out of them because she was used to the hospital ones (the ones that came with the tiny formula bottles) we switched to dr browns, but eventually switched back to avent because I hated cleanin the dr browns. Yes you can put them I the dishwasher but they had so many nooks and crannies I didn't feel like they actually got clean. I prefer to hand wash the bottles and nipples man and they avent only had 3 parts

Re: Let's talk bottles

Avoid registering for bottles.
I did a ton of research and thought Tommee Tippee would be best for us.
I registered and got a ton.
A few weeks in DD was having awful colic and gas and the ped recommended switching to playtex drop ins so we could push the air out of the bag.
It did help.
I ended up having to throw away a bunch of bottles.
Every baby is different and will react differently to bottles.
I suggest buying one or two of a few brands- just singles if you can- and see how it goes.
Once your baby decides what he/she is comfy with you can go buy a bunch more.

After two kids, this is great advice. My oldest did really well with playtex, but my second did not like them, so we went with Born Free. I think it's a good idea to just register for a couple of different brands and try those out first.

Good luck!Chat Icon

Re: Let's talk bottles

i would register for 2 different kinds.

for my 1st- we got away with playtex drop in bottles.

for my 2nd because his reflux was so bad, we could only use Dr Browns.

So i would register for 2 kinds just in case because it depends on the baby. Chat Icon
