Cooking Is Exhausting!
I've been showered and active since 7am trying to get ready to entertain at 4:30pm. I am taking my first break right now at 3:00 and I am still so far behind schedule!! 8 hours straight cooking non stop I am exhausted.
So far I have made: 2 whole roasted chickens 2 challah breads (1 round and 1 braided) a large salad 2 apple pies whole cranberry sauce applesauce
I still need to: finish the braided challah make a noodle pudding make the lemon garlic broccoli roast potatoes (might skip this now due to time) and arrange the appetizers (bought from the store-- dried fruit and nuts and cheeses)
I hope I am not forgetting anything. I am so tired!!!!!

Re: Cooking Is Exhausting!
yes the work beforehand is almost better than the mess you are left with at the end. at least in the beginning you are excited, looking forward to it, enjoying the cooking... at the end of the night its tired and you just want to lay down and staring at you are all the dirty dishes and leftovers

Re: Cooking Is Exhausting!
I hear you! I always host Thanksgiving for a crowd, Easter for 40, and many bbqs, family birthday parties, etc. in between.
I love to cook, but doing it for a crowd, on a schedule, under pressure is exhausting.
Your menu sounds delicious.
I know it's not always possible to do, but I really try to do everything I can in advance, to cut down on the chaos on the "day of." So things like the apple pie and the cranberry sauce, I would have tried to make a day or two before. I usually make most side dishes ahead of time. It helps a bit with the exhaustion, although I am still always tired by the time it's all said and done!
I could never get it done in all one day. You are my hero!

normally I do too. Can you believe 2 different stop and shops and target were all sold out of pie crusts this weekend? all 3 places... not 1 package of pie crust. Must have been a big pie weekend. DH finally found them the morning of the party in shoprite. Plus i didn't really have any time friday to cook since we were on a tight schedule with other things as well.

Re: Cooking Is Exhausting!
I have parties like twice a year because they are so exhausting.
I know a lot of people have gone Apple picking this week, I bet they are making pies this weekend.

Everything came out great. I didn't like the potato recipe. The potatoes were my one "fail". And I wish I had time to make my own pie crust. But I got a lot of compliments on everything else. Glad it was a success. I had a fun time overall. Plus I had enough leftovers so that I didn't have to make lunch or dinner. =)
