Washington, DC
What's a good place to stay that is in a nice area and close to nightlife? We're going down for a Mets/Nationals game in August (dont know how i got talked into that  ) but neither DH & I are familar with the area. I found Hotel Melrose near Georgetown. Is it any good and do you have any other hotel recommendations?

We stayed at the Marriott over Memorial weekend. It was right on the edge of Foggy Bottom, Dupont Circle and Georgetown - it was only a 10 minute walk into Georgetown. We got a great rate with AMEX and the breakfasts were yummy

You might also want to check out Alexandria and Arlington...
I wish I could help - but I've never actually stayed in a hotel down here
I am staying at the Ritz in Arlington for a friend's wedding on August... but, uh, yeah, it's probably much more expensive than the rate we're getting for the blocked rooms.

I would definitely suggest Arlington, VA. It is right across the water from Georgetown and usually much less money than staying directly in DC. There are some hotels that are right on the subway system and it is very easy to get around from there.

I stayed in a marriot that was really inexpensive (maybe 79 dollars) called keybridge marriot. It was 5 miles to washington DC but in the heart of downtown. It was really nice. Highly recommend.

The Westin Arlington Gateway is brand new and really nice. I stayed there a few months ago. I also work for Starwood Hotels, so I am biased, but I have stayed in most of my hotels in the area
Westin Grand
Westin Embassy Row
Sheraton Suites Alexandria (very nice and very cute town)
St. Regis - closing on 8/31 for a year long revnovation, but can get a good deal now.
I"m actually going tomorrow and staying at the Westin Grand.

I went to American in DC and when my family came to stay we always stayed at the Savoy - just down the way from Georgetown.

Only bad part about G-town is its not near a Metro stop, you have to take a taxi. But I'm guessing you have your car to drive to the stadium. If you stay in foggy bottom, you can metro to the armory stop, where the game is, and to a stop a few blocks from adams morgan, the nightlife strip. You can easily walk to g-town from foggy bottom, but I wouldn't want to hike it to the metro from g-town everytime you want to go out and see sites.

Hi, live outside of DC....sometimes on weekends staying in the city is really cheap since DC is a business town....
Foggy Bottom is really expensive but close to metro...
I wouldn't go any further out than Arlington (and stay near a metro, Courthouse, Clarendon, Rosslyn, Pentagon/Crystal City).
Some good recs mentioned.
My friend just got a great deal for a hotel near Washington Circle (can't remember name but been there and it's nice).
