Lice prevention
We got the dreaded letter home yesterday that a child in DS' class has lice. I had lice several times as a child and remember how terrible it was to get rid of them. I really want to try to do anything possible to keep DS from coming home with them.
Any tips on how to prevent head lice?

Re: Lice prevention
We use Fairytale shampoo, conditioner and hairspray. Rosemary and tea tree oils in it. Everyone says it works. School nurse told parents at a meeting to use hairspray.

Re: Lice prevention
Live love clean hair. If you have a daughter, lots of hair gel, hairspray and hair in a bun.
Lice hate the smell of tea tree, rosemary, and peppermint. As a prevention, I always wash my sons hair with Trader Joes Tea Tree Tingle Shampo and Conditioner and every day I use the FairyTales Lice Repel Hairspray on his hair after I gel and spike it. When there was an outbreak last year at his pre-school, I bought a pretty expensive set by Ladybugs (got it at his hair place- Snip-It's) and it's a peppermint shampoo, conditioner, and leave in conditioner. And then I also use the repel hairspray.

Re: Lice prevention
DS had lice last school year - fortunately we found it early. I took us both to Fairy Lice Mother's in Deer Park (SUPER AWESOME, by the way!) and bought their kit along with the "preventative" spray. It's a minty spray. I had DH spray the back of DS' neck and head along with the collar of his shirt. And many of the rumored remedies I was given from other mom's and friends, the Fairy Lice Mother's discounted.

Re: Lice prevention
I use the fairytales line of hair stuff - the shampoo, conditioner and leave in hair spray. Ive also bought the suave rosemary and mint line when I wanted something cheaper.

Re: Lice prevention
Ugh... we got the letter nearly everyday over the last two weeks It kept going around and around and around.
I use the Trader Joe's shampoo and conditioner on my kids... have for years.... or Fairytales. I also use the Fairytales spray religiously! I also spray the book bags, the neck of their jackets.
DD has very long hair right now (she's growing it to donate it) and she must wear it up... high ponytail, braided and sprayed... EVERY day.
I tell them to tuck their jacket into their empty book bag before they put it in the classroom coat closet. I wish elem closets were divided into cubbies like daycare centers.
My brother had lice in first grade... it's been 35 years and I'm still scarred for life

Lice prevention
Hi everyone, I am Carol, one of the owners of Fairy LiceMothers. I am available to give free advice on this itchy problem. The best thing to do is when your kids don't have lice is to get a nit comb and conditioner and comb them out to check them. This should be done once a week. I know it sounds like a lot but it will save a lot of time and money if you find an early case. You can check my website for a video on how to do a comb out. www.fairylicemothers.com Look under the "Lice Treatment" tab at the bottom.

Re: Lice prevention
OMG I just googled "what does a lice nit look like". The pictures are horrible, I'm hoping those are extreme cases! I've been making my DD wear her hair up everyday and I spray it with Fairy Tales Rosemary Repel Detangling Spray. I think I'm going to buy the shampoo and conditioner too.

Re: Lice prevention
what everyone is saying is good with the lice sprays.
also, hair up is so important. i do not know how many times the girl with the lice is the one with her hair down.

Re: Lice prevention
Last year we were getting that dreaded letter home about a lice outbreak every few weeks. Well, it finally happened. BOTH my kids ended up getting lice.
Since it was DD's class that had the outbreak, I'm sure she got it first and then DS got them, too.
It was the must disgusting experience EVER. To see a BUG crawling on your child's head...I'm scratching my head right now just thinking about it.
We went to Fairy Lice Mothers in Deer Park and they were AWESOME. So worth the $$$$.
Now, we use Fairytales shampoo, conditioner, sprays. Try to keep her hair in a ponytail or a bun. But really just drilling into them...no sharing hats, scarves, etc. The ladies at Fairy Lice Mothers said, many kids are getting lice because of all the SELFIES they take...head to head contact.

Lice prevention
We (and I mean ME and DD) got lice last school year. I didn't catch it for awhile so it was bad!! This year I have DD's hair up and braided everyday and I put the oil around her hair line and I spray it with Fairy Tales. There was another outbreak this fall. I found 1 nit on DD (none on me Thank God!) and brought her to Hair Fairies (I'm in CT and this is our Fairy Lice Mothers) and they found 1 more nit but no bugs. Either it was old nits (dead/empty) that were never removed or the bugs left because of all the spray/oil we use and they didn't like the environment. I comb her out and check her regularly so if she does get it we can catch it quick. Boys are so much more unlikely to get it because of the short hair and they don't get nearly as close to their friends as girls do!
