Nanny or Aftercare at school?
5yo DS started kindergarten last month. We are on the wait list for aftercare at his elementary school. We temporarily put him in aftercare in a church preschool down the street from our house. We are close to getting off the wait list for the elementary school aftercare.
Would you put DS in the aftercare at elementary school or get a PT nanny?
Our very reliable previous nanny just became available and we are considering hiring her as a housekeeper/afternoon nanny. DH and I want to hire her for convenience so she can do laundry, clean, cook and potentially drive DS to activities if DH or I get caught up at work.
5yo DS loves hanging out with his friends after school though. I'm pleasantly surprised at how much he loves the church aftercare. Our neighbor and 2 of his classmates also go there so he gets to hang out with them after school everyday for an hour or so. I know he will also love aftercare at his elementary school. A very good friend of his from preschool attends there as do several of his classmates.

Def nanny if $ is no consideration & you really have to be at work. Best if kid is sick, school holidays, bad weather. Plus, you like the nanny.

Nanny or Aftercare at school?
We have both. IMO the kids prefer when they don't have to go to aftercare. They get personalized attention with the nanny..she does projects with them and I LOVE that she makes sure all of DDs homework gets done. In our case it's not aftercare but an actual daycare so our hourly rate is the same either way.

My DD loves her afterschool and would prefer playing with her friends then being at home with a nanny.

nanny 100%, maybe I'm selfish but there's already plenty of interaction during the day and the nanny would ensure chores are done and dinner is waiting for when you get home. We have a similar arrangement and I'm very happy.

Same with my DS! He may get interaction with kids during the day at school, but it's not play time. He gets his homework done there too...and tons of play time afterwards - projects, playground time, you name it.

Nanny or Aftercare at school?
Aftercare but I am not a fan of nanny's for my own reasons.
Homework can also be done at aftercare so the only thing you are gaining is the help with household chores.

Re: Nanny or Aftercare at school?
Depends on your kid -
A nanny could be more convenient (especially if she's cooking and cleaning !!!)
But, my own boys are SO social and would prefer to have those extra hours with other kids -

Re: Nanny or Aftercare at school?
My choice for my kids is nanny. I actually pay a nanny from 7a-6pm even though the kids are in school 4 hours during the day, just so they have that down time before and after school. My kids are slightly younger though, however I would do what's best for your entire situation. Your son will adapt to whatever you decide.
