What to do with homemade blankets?

What should I do with my DC's homemade baby blankets? I have about 30 homemade blankets some the size of receiving blankets, some the size of a crib sheet. The blankets were made by family and friends and pretty much never used (used swaddles and sleep sacks). I've been storing them in a plastic bin in the attic. Should I just leave them there until the kids move out and then make them take them to their house or is there something more useful I can do with them? I have so many of them!

What to do with homemade blankets?

Use them to make a quilt for a big bed. I plan to do this with DS' blankets. I plan to make a king size quilt, so that he won't outgrow it. Just not sure if I will use it now or save it away for when he gets older and give it to him then. I plan to cut the smaller blankets into different sized squares and just piecing it together.

This is a great idea. I have mine in boxes in the closet.

What to do with homemade blankets?

Keep 1 or 2 that you love or that are special and donate the rest. My MIL gave me 2 of DH's blankets at my baby shower, which I thought was really sweet. My mom is a knitter, so I will keep 2 that she made so I can pass those down. That's it.

You can donate them to a local nursing home. Wheelchair bound patients like to have "lap blankets"

I know my mom "re gifted " a bunch, but special circumstances . For example her aunt had made a blanket for me when I was born that she hardly used since she had so many, when her cousin (knitter's mom) was having a baby she gave her the blanket , my mom's aunt had passed away so it was extra special for her to have something for her baby made by her mom.

I am a now a blanket giver and I tell people to please use the hell out of them. I would rather seem them used on the grass , beach, playroom , etc., then "saved" in a box somewhere.

Re: What to do with homemade blankets?

30 homemade blankets?!! WOW, that's a lot! In that case I think I'd give them away to people I know with babies who would be able to use them. I have a few that I've received as gifts but I use all of them (I only have 3 or 4)

Re: What to do with homemade blankets?

That's a lot!!
I have them many but not that many
We use them!!
I always felt with the holes in the pattern that baby can breath through it and always used the light small ones. Heavier ones I used for toddler on top of a light blank at night.. I use them every where, each strollers, outside on the grass, in the car.
I use them too, especially the bigger ones. Please reconsider using them, is not too late.
Really 30!! ?? If many from same person, donate some I think unless they the type to ask where it is later on??
I like the quilt idea for the small ones.

Re: What to do with homemade blankets?

I really have at least 30! I have a bunch of women in my family that make homemade blankets. My mom and MIL alone made several for each if my kids. Both DC are movers when they sleep. My DD (4years) only recently started sleeping under her covers. There is no way as babies they would keep a blanket on. I would occasionally throw a blanket on them in the stroller, but that's really it. I also have 4 homemade quilts in addition to the blankets. I used them as "playmates" prior to the crawling stage. I feel terrible, but I really can't use all this stuff! I guess I'll try to combine what I can to make a larger item to fit a full sized bed. If I can't do that I will donate them.
