Any recommendations on cabins or places to stay in Lake George for a weekend getaway?

Re: lake george

The Lodges at Cresthaven are beautiful. That would be my first choice.

Also though, just remember that this time of year Lake George is mostly closed up. There are only a handful of restaurants open and almost all of the shops in town are closed. *some* places open back up for the winter carnival in February, but its not many and they close back up the following week. There won't be very much to do up there this time of year.

Lake Placid might be better for that. Whiteface Mountain is nearby. You can even go bobsledding!

They have some things that are only open in Summer, but they have Winter activities too. I was there in the Fall, which was beautiful but is sort of their downtime( too cold to go out on the lakes, too warm for skiing) things were still open though.

If you are travelling with young children,
Santa's Workshop is nearby

ETA- If you still want Lake George, I found this list of places that are open in the winter.

I second Lake Placid in the winter. Whiteface Lodge is beautiful and there's so much to do.

Another option is the Poconos. Skytop Lodge has a TON of great winter activities, plus you're close to skiing and tubing. I know Skytop offers some cool stuff like dog sledding, hot chocolate with Santa, etc. Very beautiful place and very cute in the winter.

I don't mean to scare you away from Lake George because its such a great place, but in the winter its quite desolate. Mostly just locals and even they tend to go to nearby towns like Queensbury and Glens Falls instead of LG. My SIL lived in our summer home up there for a few years (she was a teacher up there) and she HATED being there in the winter because it was so dead it was depressing. We usually only go up there for the Winter Carnival in February. Other than that, we don't bother with making the trip in the winter.
