We currently have half day K in our district and a new superintendent who is for full day K. It is planned to be discussed at our next BOE meeting.
I was wondering if anyone was involved in the process and can provide any insight?

I live in Wantagh. We really put the pressure on the BOE to pass Full Day K. Mobolize your PTA's, Moms Groups, Bus Stop Chats then SHOW UP at every BOE Meeting and get people to stand up at the BOE meetings to talk about full day K Send emails, snail mail and call your BOE Members. Essentially we campaigned for it . We told our Sup and the BOE that we Expected Full Day K and it was there job to put it in place.

Thanks for responding. The story gives me hope for our district! My son will be starting K next year and I think he will greatly benefit from a full day program (and my wallet will greatly benefit from not having to supplement with enrichment).
The initial steps have been taken to mobilize the troops and we're expecting a large turnout at the BOE meeting.

Getting the BOE to put it in the budget is just step one. Once its there you need the community to then vote for the budget. If you can't get the community to vote for the budget with it in then when the BOE have to do the cuts full day K will get cut.
It happens in Northport. You will be fighting against all the sports programs and music programs.

I realize that part - I was more interested in the first steps in getting it included in the budget in the first place.
The state will provide aid for conversion which is helpful and with the new needs of common core, and the influx of younger families into our community (and related to many of the older individuals), I feel that there is a strong backing and a chance.
