Bronchitis

So I guess mom was right about not hugging people at the funeral because now I think I have bronchitis. I have a bad chest cough. The OB said regular Robitussum is ok, but that helps for about 2 hours at a time and I don't want to take it to often. I can feel the congestion in my chest.

Anyone deal with this? Anything they can do? Should I be worried about all this coughing with the baby?

I'll be 27 weeks Sat.

I had a severe cough for about 8 weeks. I took Robitussin DM b/c I was also congested with sinus infections. The baby will be fine. I saw my LO doing flips when I coughed, but they're safe in there. Try to drink a lot of fluids....my dr recommended 12 oz every hour that you're awake. It helps. Also, cough drops are fine. Feel better!

Re: Bronchitis

Thanks! The Robittusum works for about 3 hours. Then I start coughing again. But it gives me some sleep. My chest, head and throat hurt from coughing.

Per my OB's instructions I got an appointment with my GP for Monday, but honestly what is he going to do? He can't give me anything.

I had bronchitis 2x, the first time I got it after my brothers funeral. It got so bad I needed a nebulizer and a cocktail of drugs. Babies were fine, I was the only one suffering. Feel better!

That's not true. My dr gave me a cough medicine, though I didn't use it. And as I said, I was on antibiotics, too. Go see your GP. It can't hurt.

Bronchitis

I had a bad cough my entire pregnancy due to increased mucus.

If you really do have bronchitis I would not rush to take antibiotics. Bronchitis does not need to be treated by antibiotics. It will go away on its own 99% of the time.

Bronchitis

My GP confirmed that I have bronchitis and that he is pretty certain it is viral bronchitis and not bacterial. He said given my history of sinus infections and my ear issues, that normally he would put me on an anti-biotic just in case it is bacterial or to prevent a sinus infection. But as I am pregnant and he is nearly certain it is viral he has me sticking with my OB's recommendation of robitussum and lots of fluids. So I just have to wait it out.

Any suggestions to naturally soothe my sore throat from coughing, or should I say hacking?

Try honey for your throat. Also there is a children's cough medicine Zarbees that I believe adults can take also. Not sure about taking it during pregnancy though.

If you're going the natural route- try a teaspoon of honey with a half a teaspoon of cinnamon 2x a day. I've done that before for colds and it actually worked. For your sore throat, I would just keep drinking hot beverages and soups. Feel better!

Bronchitis

I woke up with no voice from coughing so much. Tea with honey seemed to help. I'll try adding the cinnamon next time. I'm trying to take the robitussum only at night before bed. I know the OB said it's ok but it freaks me out to take it.

I'm in the same boat as you although I haven't confirmed its bronchitis. I'm going tonight. I have the humidifier on at night, vaporub at night, I have been taking Robitussin DM as needed, honey and lemon in hot water has helped my throat, I'm taking Luden's throat drops and drinking a lot of fluids. I find hot, steamy showers help too. This is just miserable so I feel for you. I already had to take a z pack once this pregnancy at like 6 weeks for a double ear infection so I really don't want to have to take another.

I'm almost 16 weeks. I do not have bronchitis. Its all viral. He told me to expect to feel like this for at least another 3-5 days because I'm immunosuppressed and producing extra mucus. Awesome. Being pregnant and sick sucks.
