Kitchen renovation
We are in the process of buying a house and want to redo the kitchen before we move in. The problem is we have no idea where to start! Can anyone give recommendations on who to call? I am totally lost on this!

For their major kitchen renovation. This was about two years ago. There are pics of the kitchen in my album.
I should really have before pics too but I don't -- just picture SUPER outdated LOL.
Dynamic was great - they worked directly with Jim who made the cabinets from a pile of wood on the floor. Literally - it's like, see that pile of lumber? Those will be your cabinets! And they came out like furniture. My mom got to choose hardware from him, the finishes, the style, the stain, etc. It was great.
The only thing that she had to use another vendor for was tile backsplash and granite. Jim recommended the granite place -- ALCAMO in Commack and the tile place - World Tile in Smithtown. World Tile has another location, I forget where.
Alcamo was fantastic too - great install with an awesome selection to choose from.
World Tile was wonderful - so helpful with suggesting styles and colors. They did a mosaic above the stove (you'll see in the pics) and they were lovely to work with. They also did the flooring. Now, my father did the install of the tile only because he knows how to so why pay for install? But I know World Tile can recommend an installer or they may actually have someone there who does it, I can't remember. Prices were great.
In fact, the prices were amazing from all three vendors - cabinet/kitchen guy (Dynamic - Jim) -- the granite guy at Alcamo was an awesome price and World Tile's price was great too. And I would know because I'm the one who shopped all of the prices and called for quotes from other places.
My parents initially met with three kitchen/cabinet designer people I found for them - all three MADE their OWN cabinets, very important.
They also went to three different granite and tile places. I compared pricing and install and all of that for them on everything. The ones we went with were the best by far.
It's a lot of work but it paid off :)
Pics in my album under Kitchen Renovation.
OH yeah! Appliances! I shopped at Loew's and my parents chose what they wanted, brand and model. Then, I called Two Guys Appliances in Centereach (they beat the box store prices) and I called PC Richard and Harry's Discount Appliances of Brooklyn. Harry's beat the price by the most and offered free delivery and haul away of the old ones. You'll need the make and model numbers of the appliances you want in order for them to beat it -- they have to know which you mean, to compare apples to apples.
Harry's was great but a little hectic - you'd call and speak to the father, who would tell me that the son was a jerk. Then, you'd call and speak to the son, who would tell me that the father was senile
All in all, it worked out but for sanity sake I think I'd go with Two Guys in Centereach who offered me the next best deal - and Harry's only beat them by like $200 on the delivery charge, honestly. So, I would go with them - they are nice, honest, and it's great to be able to work with the same people and have that "family owned and operated" feel. Plus, they beat the prices of the large stores - a total homerun.
Hope that helps!

Re: Kitchen renovation
I used Dynamic Kitchens about 4 years ago. I will try to post a pic. I love how it came out. My cabinets are like well made furniture.

Re: Kitchen renovation
We just did the same (bought a house that needed the kitchen to go asap). We are using the above vendor, Kitchen Designs by Ken Kelly. I met with various kitchen contractors and was not comfortable going forward until meeting Ken and going to his showroom. I only wish I called sooner. I wasted too much time speaking with contractors who were clearly going to be a nightmare. You need organization when it comes to a deadline such as before moving in. I am exactly in your shoes, any questions FM me or feel free to ask.
