Has anyone removed food dyes from their children's diet and seen a difference?
Just wondering if anyone really saw a difference in their children's behavior as far as being super hyper and if removing food dyes from the diet was difficult as far as cooking meals and stuff. TIA!

Re: Has anyone removed food dyes from their children's diet and seen a difference?
YES... My son was around 3 when he started to have HORRIBLE night terrors and issues with his behavior... I googled dyes and night terrors and it came up that it can cause issues like that. I first eliminated blue dye after I noticed a pattern with blue lollipops after OT. It helped a bit... But then after a few weeks things got worse. So I eliminated red and yellow dyes and within 2 weeks, he was a new kid... I slowly reintroduced yellow and blue back into his diet and he is ok with minimal amounts of it. But red dye is completely out. He had an allergic reaction after eating a red lollipop so the allergist said no more... Also look out for annatto (natural food color) and caramel color...

Thank you!! So annatto is a natural food color that we should stay away from too? one of my 4 year olds is super hyper and doesn't listen, tons of behavior issues. While I know it's also his age I feel like eliminating food dyes for everyone may help. So should i eliminate one at a time, like red first, to see if that makes a difference? Or should I go balls to the wall and eliminate everything at once? I don;t want to take away from them at birthday parties and stuff though, would it be ok to let them have cake with their friends at birthday parties? Or would I need to bring something dye free for them? My 4 year old DD had night terrors a lot. She is hyper but nowhere near as hyper as her twin brother. Is it hard to actually make the change and go dye free?

I eliminated all of them for a month and then reintroduced one at a time to see what kind of reaction it would be. He is ok with a little yellow and blue, but NO red still.. For parties I got his cake with no red frosting. I usually bring safe treats with me where ever we go...

Has anyone removed food dyes from their children's diet and seen a difference?
Thanks ladies!! I am going to start eliminating this weekend when we go food shopping I'll make sure to check everything. Not gonna lie I feel a little overwhelmed about it but I keep reading how it helps tremendously with behavior issues. I've heard red dye is a big factor. I'm hoping this helps.

Not me personally, but a friend of mine. Her daughter was suffering terrible migraines and they did some kind of elimination diet. When they started adding things back they found out it was the red dye in Kool aid or something. That the only reason I know about the dyes...

Thanks everyone. We are going to start this weekend. I've been on pinterest all night looking for dye free snacks and foods.

One easy way to start is shop at whole foods - none of the products sold in that store contain artificial dyes

my aunt did this with my cousin, specifically red dye among others and it made a world of difference.

You can also try reader joes. Their products don't contain artificial dyes.

You would be surprised where there is food dye....juices, chips, Doritos, Cheetos, cereal, Kraft Mac n cheese and things you would never even think have it. Read the ingredients of the snacks and food you have at home to see if it contains food dye. Marshmallows have food dye which surprised me by they are white lol. This link is helpfullink

Thanks everyone. We went to trader Joe's today and got some great stuff. We used to shop there all the time but the closest one is almost 30 minutes from us so it's a bit of a hike. Looks like we'll be shopping there a lot more again.
