Anyone else not get home from work until 7:15p?
I leave the house at 645 and some days I work til 5 and a few days I work til 4. I switched my schedule once I had DS. I work in the city and my DH works on the N/Q border.
DH does drop offs, I pick up 3 days a week and my FIL picks up 2 days.
My DS never went to bed before 9 and he is up at 6am. Some will say its not enough sleep but he is fine with it and it works for us. Now that he is older (3) we have dinner at 7ish and gets a bath after that and then we hang out.
If you can switch your schedule a bit it can work. My daycare is open 630-630 so even if we both had to leave early we could still do it and if I had to leave at 5 everyday then I could still make it to daycare.
Key is to pick a place that you can get off the train and get to quickly.

You'll figure out a way to make it work. Both DH and I work in the city. Our day care is 7am-6pm. I shifted my hours a half hour earlier and got a JetPack so I can work on the train if I need to do work while I'm mobile. One of us has to leave work by 5pm to pick DS up, but if the other one has to work late, it still works out. Remember, both you and your husband don't have to work on the same schedule. Maybe one can work early and the other late to accommodate drop offs and pick ups.
Thanks :). The switching off between me and DH wil have to be the answer!
I'll also add there are other options, too. Like day care all day and then hiring a babysitter to pick your child up and watch him/her the last hour of the day until you or your husband get home. It would likely be less expensive than a full-time nanny. I see babysitters dropping kids off at day care in the mornings, too. You'll make it work!
Thanks so much. I wish there was a company to help you set-up what to do for working parents after maternity leave is done and help figure out the best places and people, haha. I'll do it fine myself but boy would that be amazing :)

Me! I am 24w3d and I get on the train at 7:20 am and then get off the train at 7:20pm.... I've already requested to work from home for the entire month of April (due 5/11) so I just have to make it through March--I think the subway is the worst part, wayyy to crowded, I sometimes don't get on the first one that comes in because I do not want to be smushed up against someone....hang in there!!!
Totally agree with the subways. In my puffy winter coat people can't see that I'm pregnant yet and I just want to scream it to stop pushing!

Great advice. I think my company/boss will let me work from home 1 day per week, and DH can likely work from home 1 day per week, so for 3 days a week ideally I'd leave at 5:00pm, but that makes me worry that I won't be able to ask for that AND working from home every Monday. Ugh.

Re: subway - I've taken to unzipping my jacket and rubbing my belly. Desperate times, but seriously, it's the worst. Not like that means anyone offers me a seat!
Off topic but, last Friday the E train was so messed up going to Penn I decided to take it to Jamaica. Except it was standing room only the whole time and I was miserable. An elderly woman - with a CANE - was the only one to offer me her seat. I couldn't take it. Then, about 2 stops away from Jamaica, a young guy offered me his seat.
Commuting this next 3 months is going to kill me!!

This is when you go up tot he priority seating areas and ask someone to get up.
People will not move for you but when they are shamed into it they will get up.

Re: Anyone else not get home from work until 7:15p?
I used to do this everyday for years. I was previously pregnant but ended up having a miscarriage. One of my biggest concerns was what a long day it would be for our baby. We didn't end up needing to figure it out at that time but I understand how stressful it can be. I moved to Queens over the summer to cut my commute in half...I'm still worried it will be a long day but I think we'll have family that will be helping us out.
Definitely talk to your employer to find out what flexibility they will offer. If they aren't willing to budge, then you'll have some time to figure it out. Good luck!
Also, I agree with the unzipping of the jacket on the E train because people are the worst!

Me too!! THE WORST!
Today, on the commute to 53rd, I was standing, belly out for all to see, in front of three young business men who completely ignored me. I don't mind the standing or the holding on, what's hard is the abrupt stops and jerking motion that hurt my back and balance! Anyway, a woman standing next to me, asked loudly, if I wanted her to say something to the guys. I said no thanks, I'm used to it. They didn't even look up. It's infuriating!
As for asking for a priority seat, I don't know if I could do that unless its an emergency, in which case I'll ask anyone! I just feel like maybe they have some ailment and are sitting for a reason.

Ugh, those jerks. Yes, let's hope (?) that they need to sit for a reason...

Re: Anyone else not get home from work until 7:15p?
I ride that subway from 57/7 to penn but luckily was big during the summer when you could see my belly. I have always had decent luck with people getting up but if not I go to the man most blatantly avoiding eye contact and ask for his seat whether I need it or not. Subway is way better than the bus. We lived in the city when i was pregnant with my first and I rode the subway until the very end in the summer so it was very obvious. I never got s seat on the bus bc everyone either had children with them or was older and it was just easier for me to take the subway and be guaranteed a seat
Edit: I am not bacj to work yet but when I am if I see you I will offer my seat :)

Anyone else not get home from work until 7:15p?
DH and I both left early and came home late. I really wanted to be a SAHM. But if I didn't, I would have looked for a job closer to home. DH would not have been able to arrange his schedule to definitely do drop offs or pickups. A lot of the time, he couldn't do either.
