Do I really need a new crib mattress?

My boys will be 4 years apart. My first born is still in his toddler bed - but I'll get him new furniture so I can reassemble his bed into a crib.

Do I really need a new crib mattress for baby #2? I know that the one I purchased 4 years (!!) ago was high quality - not sure if it is good for another one. (I should mention that we somehow never had an accident in bed - so the mattress isn't soiled beyond normal wear.)

TIA

You do not need a new mattress if the one you have is in good condition.

As long as the newborn side is still hard and not worn in bc that would be a sids risk.

the newborn side is still very firm.

So grateful for this feedback. Other than some small incidentals - I don't think I'll need much in the way of baby gear for #2. Yay!

I used the same mattress for my 3! The oldest was 3.5 when baby took over the mattress.
