I happened to have an appointment today, so my doctor wrote out the script, I took a photo and emailed it to them along with my CC info (I ordered the upgrade) and just got the tracking info :)
Awesome! When are you due? Trying to figure out when I should get my doctor to write one out for me
I'm due in May, 27 weeks now. Our perfect baby was SUPER fast. They got back to me within minutes every time I contacted them!

Re: no breastpump coverage- nyc doe
I just want to clarify- through NYC Blue Cross/Blue Shield (the hospital insurance) was anyone able to get a pump?
I'll try ourperfectbaby.com, but just wanted to see if anyone had success with this!
Thank you!

yes don't even mention your GHI- just e-mail myperfectbaby and say you have Blue Cross/Blue Shield and they will e-mail back asking for a pic of your card. Then they will tell you what is covered and what is extra- the regular medela double electric pump in style is covered, but you have to pay extra if you want to tote bag or backpack one (I think $70). You just need to e-mail them a doctor's note and they will send it to you within a week

Just tried, and got an e-mail back saying, "We are a provider for BCBS, however NYC employees are not covered for breast pumps." So frustrating!

Re: no breastpump coverage- nyc doe
We too have GHI- NYPD and we got denied! I was so pissed. They are not mandated to cover pumps. Such bull.

Not directly through BCBS, but ourperfectbaby just shipped me one using my BCBS insurance.

That's so weird! They emailed me back within minutes saying they confirmed my insurance and just needed the prescription from my doctor. The pump shipped same day. Maybe try filling out the form again? Another friend had luck with Aeroflow.

Re: no breastpump coverage- nyc doe
I was emailing back and forth and they were going to send me one based on my bcbs insurance but I asked them to confirm that the claim would be accepted before sending bc I didn't want to get stuck with full price. They called bcbs and then emailed me back that bcbs does not give out breast pumps. Glad I asked but I think it's kinds crazy how fast they are willing to send out pump without knowing if claim will be accepted

ohh so even thought they said it was accepted and said to send the doctor's note, I would have probably been charged down the road because the insurance would have denied it later on? I read online about using the BCBS and it didn't seem like they ever had issues..

Re: no breastpump coverage- nyc doe
That's the impression I got. Very discouraging! I was so excited to be getting one. But I'm happy that I pushed the questions instead of getting charged later on

I am probably going to order it in a few months, since I'm only like 6 weeks. But you can order it whenever you want, as long as you get the dr's note!
I had to be within a window to order it, at least 26 weeks. I ordered mine Friday at 33 weeks, it came today.

That's so confusing! They assured me that my insurance was confirmed, so they had better cover it or I'm going to send it right back to them and demand a refund. I'll report back! Mine's set to arrive tomorrow.

Re: no breastpump coverage- nyc doe
not that this helps, but it might take the edge off a little- if you have an FSA/Cafeteria plan, they're covered. You just need to either use your card to purchase it or submit your receipt for reimbursement.

no breastpump coverage- nyc doe
My friend is a NYC DOE teacher and went through a company for a breast pump. She got a prescription from her doctor and the company sent her the pump no problem. They took all her insurance info, a copy of her card, and submitted the claim. The company itself didn't bill her but about 3 months after the baby was born, her insurance company sent her a bill saying the claim had been denied and that she owed the full amount for the pump as it wasn't covered under her plan. Not sure if it was this company but sounds very similar. For what it's worth: many insurance companies get away with not covering breast pumps despite the changes made with the Affordable Care Act because they were grandfathered in as existing insurance plans.
